I have just received my Meade Polaris 130mm/650mm that I purchased a few days ago. I will be setting up the telescope tomorrow and, considering this is my first telescope, I am most likely going to struggle with the process of setting it up. Thank you, Meade, for publishing this rather simple, organised and straight-forward guide to your Polaris series, my mind is now at ease.

My 114 eq didn’t come with the latitude lock adjustment knob, I got it from curry’s as a refurbished item for much cheaper. Is there anyway of getting this one part?

Polaris 130mm - how do i do planetgazing? i have a 2x barlow objective, a 30(?)mm, a 9mm and an 8mm. which to use?
@givskingosk8

30mm to start, then reduce to 8 or 9 for close up views. Try this without the Barlow first

Better buy 130 mm. The 127 mm model uses a corrector. The corrector makes the picture worse. The tube is 650 mm, and the focal length is 1000 mm. And for 130 mm, the focal length corresponds to a length of 650 mm.
@crasheba1533

@@arrant638 This is totally true. The Meade Polaris 127 is the evil twin brother of the Celestron Powerseeker 127... both are bird-jones telescopes and they use a corrector lens, which makes the images way less sharp especially in greater magnifications (they're also very difficult to collimate, and if the corrector breaks you're f****d). The Polaris 114 and the 130 are fine for the price, they don't use corrector at least so it's something!. For beginners I'd recommend the Sky Watcher Heritage 130p or the 150p instead, they're cheaper and good quality (for the price). Then you can move to bigger or better telescopes, with more expensive mounts.

That's how *reflector* telescopes work by default unless you buy an "erect image prism". *Refractor* telescopes usually come with this "attachment" by default.

If you're in the southern hemisphere, the southern cross more or less points due south.
