I’m trying something new this month. I am trying monthly meal planning. I wrote down all our family favorite meals and plugged them in each day of the week. I grocery shop each Friday for the next weeks meals. I went to Costco and stocked up on kid friendly frozen foods (chicken tenders, tater tots, taquitos). That way, if we get too lazy to cook we have something quick and easy to make instead of grabbing fast food.

I don't necessarily plan day to day meals but I have a list of meals on the fridge that we can chose from depending on how much time someone has to cook. My 15 y/o also helps with meals so sometimes the plan gets adjusted based on his ambition level of the day.

I would add to budget a little extra per week to buy things that you stumble across in-store that are on sale to use for the next week!

I buy a 30-pack of eggs and scramble them with crumbled sausage, some milk, and sautéed veggies and get 20 tortillas and portion out the scrambled egg mixture with some shredded cheese and roll each one up into wax paper and freeze them in gallon-sized plastic bags and I have a month of weekday breakfasts to take to work. It’s been awesome

This sounds like a good idea. So each one gets rolled in wax paper and then you pull them out of freezer and it into microwave for a couple minutes?
@jill9606

@@motorcyclezeal4813 exactly, yes! Some I make with eggs and potatoes, some with eggs and veggies so they’re a little different. Sometimes with cheese or hot sauce!

I’ve done this as well! I also throw in some frozen hashbrowns and the taste is awesome! I’m moved away from cereal to oatmeal and these breakfast burritos!

As crazy as it sounds, I have prepped dozens of PB&J sandwiches and stuck them in the freezer. If ever I don’t have anything else for lunch I can always grab a sandwich to bring to work. It defrosts before lunchtime and if you layer the peanut butter on both pieces of bread, there’s no way it’ll get soggy! Cheap, simple, and nostalgic to school days lol

I'm super intentional with my grocery budget. The dollar amount per bi-weekly pay period is firm. I shop sales and use coupons-but only for stuff I know I will use. As for meal planning- this girl can't do it. I don't know what I want to eat on a given day and something pre-planned that doesn't sound appealing that day won't work for me. I keep my pantry stocked with cooking staples- various canned tomatoes, cream soups for recipes, dry pastas, rice, black beans, great northern beans etc. I try to keep frozen veggies and cheese on hand. I buy meat on sale and throw together dinners from what I have.

Who knew the toughest thing in our lives would be figuring out what we're gonna eat, every single day, three times a day, for the rest of your life until you're dead. 💀
