"Meals in bags" have kept my Parents out of a nursing home, and able to live in their home until I was able to retire and care for them myself. I would make them up, put them in their freezer, and THEY didn't have to worry to cook things thru, or burn anything. Microwave meals saved me! Think outside the box... Or bag as it were... 😉

@@cathydorie1887 Cathy .. it's so timely that you responded to my comment, because I'll have to say this: I've been caring for my parents now for about 2 years... They do have short term memory issues, getting worse it seems weekly.. however, My mom is a great baker, and at 90 years old, STILL loves to bake. Yesterday, we made chocolate chip cookies, where WE BOTH left out the crushed nuts, and a pumpkin pie, where we both left out the sugar!! I'm losing my mind right alone with my mom! I guess it's like when the kids are small, and you speak child talk all day, and a friend pops by, and you talk baby talk to your friend!... I am thankful right now for the internet, just so I can communicate with adults who keep my mind sharp! By the way, I've just seen in the food stores, freezer containers for meals for 1 to 2 people that are microwavable! That's better than what was available to me a couple years ago! Thanks for responding!

Thank you for more meals in bags videos! I use binder clips on the top of my bags, and you don't even have to mess with those staples. They don't tear the bags, and they are reusable. I put freeze dried cheese in there for the top. You could use cheese powder, too. I also love using the "chili ready" tomatoes. They add a lot more flavor with the cumin and extra spices. We love your bag meals!!

Got a small packet of my frozen green pepppers out of the freezer and sprinkled in some of my homemade dry minced onions, along with a cup of macaroni. A few shakes of the salt and pepper shaker and 1/2 tsp. of Italian seasoning and my supper will be ready in 20 minutes. You just have me a good idea for when SHTF. Having a few humble versions of these to hand out to loved ones or a few trusted neighbors within safe limits may be a compassionate option, without announcing to the world that you have stockpile. Or to give when there is a new baby, family illness or seniors that could use a little kindness.

I love this idea so much!... I just worry so much about eating food that I’ve preserved, mind BLOWN that the meat was four years old! 😳 I once canned 24 jars of garden fresh tomatoes.....but never ate one. Threw it all away because I was worried perhaps I made a mistake and might be feeding my family spoiled food. Your videos just amaze me! Love watching them and you are SUCH an excellent educator!

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you. I’ve learned so much. Between dehydrating, gardening, canning, and food storage…I’m set. Nothing goes to waste anymore. I even diy composted last year in a regular trash can and had beautiful soil to help fill container garden this year. Soil is so expensive now. Every little bit of self sufficiency is helpful. Cool weather plant starts are in and seedlings are coming along nicely. It’s going to be a good year. Other than perfecting skills, the only thing I’m going to work on this year is water and a diy water filtration. I do have the camping ones for filtration as backup. The home canned ground beef is phenomenal. My mom got sick and I whipped her up a pot of chili so quickly with the ground beef and my home canned chili beans. She said it was probably some of the best chili she ever had. She’s now raiding my pantry more and more, 😂.

Packing these meals in bags seems like an excellent idea as gifts, care packs for others, or if you are extremely busy all the time. I'm glad I am retired without a big workload of things to do so I just grab things from my big pantry or freezer. I'm not yet convinced that all the prep time taken in assembling ingredients to put in bags saves much time in the long run. I vacuum seal in bags, vacuum seal my dehydrated things in jars, and freeze foods already. It takes me the same time to throw together a meal in a skillet just by getting things from the cupboard as needed along with individual meat like the ground beef patties I formed and vacuum-packed in small bags and froze. My Panasonic microwave thaws meat perfectly and meat gets browned in a pan along with seasonings and all of the other things added then left for about 10 more minutes to cook. Great idea for those who find this method more convenient though. Different things work for different people and it is good to learn them all.
