If your bike has a similar setup, then yes. It's a generalized video for disc brake adjustment. If you do the work yourself, we always recommend taking your bike to a shop for a safety inspection prior to riding. Actually, we always recommend having a shop perform regular safety inspections on bikes. Thanks for watching!

perhaps you should have wound the rear pad in a bit closer to the disc before setting the position with the business card, then you would have more room for adjustment before the back side pad disappeared in its housing.

in all honesty, good advice, but you always want the cable pulley to have full extension and get your pads as close without having to move the pulley arm up, reason being as your brakes wear out you can start hitting the frame of your brake, instead of getting cable tension and just causing unneeded problems later on, you should've loosed the caliper and moved it over to the right a little bit, and then adjusted the stationary pad accordingly, for optimal performance

So when doing this the slack has to come from the barrel adjuster instead of the brake lever.
@VilanoBikes
11 ай бұрын
Before making any adjustments, the barrel should be screwed in all the way. Any slack in the cable should be eliminated by pulling on the cable and tightened down. If there is any slack after, you can eliminate with the barrel adjuster. As always, take your bike to a professional bike mechanic for regular safety inspections.

Please do not ride the bike until this is resolved. Without seeing the bike, perhaps that this bike is not adjusted correctly... Does it appear that there is too much slack in the cable? If that's the case, the cable housing would not be seating in the barrel adjuster of the lever. When the brake lever is pulled the cable housing slips into the barrel adjuster making the click sound. Another possibility is that the cable could be slipping in the pinch-bolt. There could be something faulty with the caliper. I don't know what kind of brake system you have and I'm guessing caliper. It could be due to any number of things. I suggest you not ride your bike and take it to a local bike mechanic to take a look and resolve it for you.

This helped me a lot. I bought a cheap china bike with very brief setup information, more like specs only. The brakes in your video look similar to mine. Most other videos don't show the 5mm pad adjust information. I am concerned that it looked like the brakes were bending the rotor when applied in your video. I made mine floating by keeping adjustment bolts loose enough to allow play and use loctite blue permatex thread sealer to keep them tight. It seems I have made self-adjusting brakes now. I didn't know what I was doing. Will this looseness cause me trouble?
@VilanoBikes
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, thank you for watching our video. Unfortunately I cannot see your bike, so I cannot advise if they are too loose. However, looseness could indeed cause a problem and brakes are essential to ensure your bike is safe to use. I strongly urge you to not ride the bike until you have taken it to a professional bike mechanic who can inspect the bike and advise if it is safe to use. I wish I could offer a resolution to your concern.

@VilanoBikes
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Newt, thanks for watching. Your bike will need to be inspected by a professional. Something may be displaced in the caliper or you may have an unseated cable end. I'm sorry I cannot give you more detailed information. Good luck!
@newttella1043
6 жыл бұрын
Vilano Bikes I found out what the issue was. I tightened the cable too much. The CX Hayes brake caliper doesn't like to have the cable too tight, otherwise it sort of releases with a loud click once it is pass a certain point. You need to loosen the mounting bolts and re-adjust the stationary caliper, then re-center the calipers again. It's fiddly but that solved the issue.

Hi Jeff, every time I try to adjust my mtb disc brakes it feels like spongy and tires doesn't lock up, they are mechanical disc brake
@VilanoBikes

It sounds as if the stationary pad is too far from the rotor. Mech disc brakes work when the pad on the outside pushes the rotor up against the stationary pad. The spongey feeling is the rotor flexing because the gap between the rotor and stationary pad is possibly too great. Adjusting this will also help stop the bike.
