Here in upstate NY cars rust out quick . But also the metal used today is cheap.You pay a lot for cheaply made . If you undercoat best do it on new vehicle,or you will lock in the rust .

I'm always amazed at how many vehicles you show that don't have any frame left. Where the H do you people drive? Plus how do you screw up doing disc brakes? They're like no brainier simple.

Garbage Motors (GM) is, by far, the most rust-o-matic vehicles I service. Many are so bad that trying to undo bolts results in half of them breaking. Even pickup trucks as new as five years of age have excess rust behind the door and the cargo bed. The rocker panels are often full of holes. Removing the tail lights often reveals a lot of rust. Is this planned obsolescence, just like electric cars, or just poor business practice, engineering, and materials. I will never own a General Motors vehicle again. It is really too bad. They used to be my favourite. I guess they are job security for me.

There is a collision between a Bel Air and a Malibu somewhere on KZitem. When that Bel Air hit a plume of red rust dust flew into the air. That frame was destroyed by rust on an already infamous X-frame design. Of corse the car was going to fold like an achordian. Many people fell for it.

Well this is what happens when people neglect their vehicles. Proper maintenance and regular service intervals are necessary. Yet for the people who own these cars in all of these clips, I thank you for keeping us technicians employed. The more you neglect your vehicle, the more money us technicians make for the stupidity y'all endure. This is why we love our job.

The exhaust pipe with the cans and hose clamps made me smile.2 years ago,on a road trip from NY to Oregon,on a old Harley, I noticed a crack in my exhaust system. Found some cans along the road.I always carry a small roll up mechanics wire. In about 20 minutes, I was back on the road.Stopped in some town in western Nebraska, bought some muffler patch material at autobone and was on my way.every couple of days, I would have to replace the material. I was camping the whole trip, and purchasing my food along the way. Last nights dinner can was the next day new patch,as the tin would get brittle from heat/cooling cycles during the day. What ever gets you home...

Those bald tires though. I was like that as a teen (didn't have a choice it was that or walk not my car okay) I will say it made me really good at controlling a spin before it starts. Hydroplaning, fish tailing, not so scary when it happens constantly for 2 years before your patent finally drives the car and goes "huh I think you're right about the tires" OH REALLY WHAT GAVE IT AWAY?! As an adult I've become a bit of a tread snob

Lol, those clamps on the coil spring brings me back to my teens. Those clamps were sold as height adjusters. We used then on our coil springs to drop the cars. They worked great and was so much easier and safer then cutting springs. I don't know why they looked at them like they were aliens because it was something everyone did that couldn't afford shortened springs.

Those vehicles with rusted-out frames would have been condemned & sent to the crusher as unroadworthy a long ago here in 🇬🇧. I can *possibly* relate to the American thinking of detesting Government interference in private lives, but when you're a danger to innocent people in their own life, the Federal government should surely mandate a basic safety check & certificate on all vehicles?
@iFixJunk

Nah, too much power. Safety and emissions inspections are a thing in many states. I suspect what we're seeing is coming from states that don't have inspections OR vehicles that have missed some because they were laid up. Some jurisdictions are lax about enforcement, though, so it's possible someone can forget to get an inspection or avoid it for multiple years.

People that just get in and go. At least all my family members know maintenance. We’ve had cars last a long time in are family the longest car we kept running was almost 30 years old of course it needed some repairs but nothing too major the engine gaskets finally started leaking some oil but it was very minor you could just top up the oil and that car would have still ran forever but my dad didn’t want to take the entire engine apart to fix the gaskets so he sold it.

The rusted Sanoma dose not surprise me. GM vehicles rust with the greatest of ease, have the worse engines, and weakest suspension. I have no idea why they are still in business. They produce nothing worth buying, save the Corvette. Corvette is a niche market that should just break away, if possible. The rest of GM should be dismantled and allowed to disappear. I work on vehicles all day. By far, GM and Nissan are the worse.
