mazdaplz It is a Mauler, not an Awesome This is really interesting to look at in detail, because the Com Guards actually seemed to respect Zellbriggen in that 4 vs 2. It looks like the Atlas pilot is the Lance Commander, he was the last to open fire, and only AFTER the Timber Wolf actually opened fire on him (which btw is a breach of the Zellbriggen rules right there, the Zeus was his opponent because it fired on the TWolf, not the Atlas)... then the TWolf fired a salvo at the Zeus and only then did the Atlas respond, along with the Catapult which also did not fire until that point... by pretty much blowing the Timber Wolf into the atmosphere with a single missile salvo. Sucks to be the Kodiak pilot, because now it was all out everything goes. ^^
@Harkeilla

Marcel Ebert I didn't notice it before until you mentioned it, where the Timber Wolf pilot had targeted the 'Mech beside the Atlas (I cannot see it properly to know what to 'Mech is exactly) while the Mauler was hitting the Kodiak. According to the the rules of Zellbringen, the Clans shouldn't be doing that, since they place so much on honour and 1v1 duels, even in the battlefield. The Jags fucked up, and rightly so. This was probably the start of the downfall of their Clan, ignoring their own rules of engagement.

The sheer ferocity Comstar had when they came at the Clans was downright terrifying. They didn't stop, they never even slowed down. They climbed over the bodies of their dead comrades just to bite at the ankles of the Clan warriors. The battle of Tukayyid was a hell of a fight. Watching this just hammers it harder. This is how they won almost every battle. It took twice as many mechs to take these down, but they didn't stop until they won.

Why can't MWO have this type of feel to it like Mechwarrior had in the old days. If anything I want them to take notes from the second generation of entries in the series and the targeting elements of their sequels and tries to put that in Mechwarrior 5. @finegamingconnoisseur

+Demopan D It's possible that that may have been part of the tactic by the Inner Sphere; put a couple of vulnerable targets to lure out the fire support 'Mech and take it out of action, so that the bulk of the main assault force further at the back won't have to deal with it later in the heat of battle. Had the Vulture been still up and operational by the time the two forces clashed head-on, it may have turned the tide of battle against the IS. Just my theory anyway. It does remind me of a mission late into the game when the Clans invaded, the player starts out in a crater surrounded by fake IS assault 'Mechs filled with explosives to lure the Clans into attacking them, only to detonate when they've closed in and inflict large amounts of damage, after which the player and his lance mates spring into action and launch a surprise attack to beat back the invaders. One of the best missions in the game, but also one of the hardest, in my opinion.

also he understood the clans predilection for ammo based weapons, due to the higher damage potential... he used alot of vehicles as fodder, and most of the com guards (based on the scenarios we played fleshing the battle out) used energy based mechs using star league designs, which narrowed, if not overcame the clan advantages... those were fun fights... I got to play in the battle that was used as the falcon guard story... and I distinctly remember a pewter mini being thrown at my head after a head shot + crit x3 on an executioner.... The scariest aspect about the Atlas for me is that the cockpit is, despite outward appearances, friggin tiny! Good luck hitting the left eye with enough boom to actually injure the pilot. Lucky onehit kills are extremely rare on it... combine that with 19 tons of armor...yikes! Of course, that is for the Mechwarrior games, in CBT the chance to hit that cockpit is exactly the same as for every other mech.

@recniabsal Basically, it's because Tukkayid stopped their Blitzkreig. The clans started with a technological edge, but with the treaty of Tukkayid the industrial juggernaught of the Inner Sphere was able to ramp up production and research, closing the gap if not tech wise, then numerically. IS tech is still inferior in a lot of ways to clan tech, but it's also more diverse...and again, numbers. I agree though; clans are pretty badass.
@michaelgreenwood3413
4 ай бұрын
That and what mainly gave the Clans their edge was that the IS was unused to fighting them and their tactics. That 15 year reprieve levelled the playing field immensely. While the IlClan era still eventually happened, the Clans had to fight a *fuckload* harder than they did in the Clan War when they had to take on the Republic of the Sphere, who had Tech that was close to par (not to mention Clan Sea Fox selling shit to everyone, which the Republic took advantage of at length). Should also be noted by that point that many clans had adopted some IS Tech as well, such as Clan Wolf's adoption of the Davion-built RAC/5. Course, Clan Wolf continued to be the "good" Clan in that era as well, notably in at least one case freeing most of their Republic Bondsmen and allowing them to pursue their own paths (either becoming full Warriors of Clan Wolf or being allowed to leave).

It was basically 1 hit and you died but you were so fast and small it was hard for them to hit you. Anybody else ever do that? lol

+tlv156 In MW4:mercs there' s a mission to destroy the factories for the Templar if I remember correctly. It's a solo mission, and they're defended by an entire mech company, including multiple assaults. After repeated tries, the only way I finished it was taking the lightest mech I had (don't remember which one), stripping everything off except a couple of small lasers and maxing the engine out. And than I simply avoided the enemies altogether, destroyed the turret controls, and focused on only completing the objectives and getting the hell out of dodge. They took out half my mech in a single PPC hit to the back while I ran for the evacuation zone. But they had no chance of keeping up with me, and I brought what's left of my mech to the dropper.
@BTG514

+tlv156 There was some kind of bug that ignored weight restrictions for the elemental suits so in addition to the engines, jump jets and weapons I could add ridiculous amounts of armor to the point where you could just take more AC20 rounds than a lance of mechs could carry. It was fun for a laugh, but being invincible in 'instant action' gets dull fast.

For example you accept a contract from Draconis Combine for a Search and Destroy mission, the counter contract would be to protect that target(s) which some other mercenary outfit would take on :) Un/successful contracts help shape the powers of each Periphery power: Combine, House Davon, etc. or even against the clans.

While the clanners fought with honor, the comguards made sure they died for their honor too. Comstar went to Tukkayid to only try to win at all costs but to grind down the clan's spearpoint to a blunt spade. as tex put it. "Comstar sent all they had Tukkayid and was willing lose it all...to save terra alone." the clans didn't just lose mechs on Tukkayid. they lost everything that mattered at that point in time to them on Tukkayid and the clan's marks the end of the high point of clanner power. as it was all down hill from then on.

Continuation of the last comment... The guild/organization system would ofcoarse be in the form of Mercenary Companies. You would be able to choose freelance or join another person's mercenary company. In either case staying as such until you have enough credits to start your own company if you wish :) All M2: Mercenaries features would be available: Mech Bay, Dropship (owned or contracted), Office, Terminal, etc. Sigh... I hope such a Battletech game is in the works.

@Aetrion Again it is the time line 2457 to the 2700 take a look at the SH that medium laser on it's arm takes up over half the arm. Also size does play a part a atlas (17 meters) is nearly twice as large a a shadowhawk (9 to 10 meters). So a ac 20 on a atlas would be rather massive if mounted on a medium mech but would be half the size on a assault mech or appear small. Also there are different types of Autocannons the ac20 represents calibers between 150mm to 203mm.

Well, 1/6th chance of hitting the head with a punch, and you'd only remove the armor and one structure point, no guarantee you'd destroy the cockpit.. just nitpicking XD

Both were in the red after I killed it I guess due to the explosion and heat generated from close proximity. Thanks for the clear up ;) And yes its DFA I dont know why I was thinking Dead or Alive XD

Such a gritty game, and so ahead of its time with all the custimization abilites. I hope MWLL is half the game MW2Mercs was in its time.

@Aetrion Actually, it makes perfect sense since they have similar range and speed. if you want to alpha fire snipe someone, a mix of gauss and PPCs can one-shot many mechs from over 800 yards away.

well...i mean commando vs. mad dog, you're probably going to be screwed either way, not to mention you're penned into a canyon and can't really go anywhere if you wanted to run... also, gotta love those headshots on those catapults in this game, why was that so easy?
