These workers are so brave to work on those rickety chimneys.

They built the chimneys up from the inside outwards. Worked their overhauling all the FD and ID fans coupersplit bearing and scraped the white metal bearing in on some of the larger rotating machines in. They used to have oil drums with fires in on the intakes in the early 1990s.

when you climb a chimbley do you start climbing on the south side moreso than any other side because north exposure takes more weather and stuf

not all brick chimneys are gone, most that remain, have preservation orders put on them,so can,t be demolished,if they a redundant, which most are.they put a cap over the top, made of lead,to protect the inside from the weather

@@michaelgoulding6609 The lower cracks in the brickwork on this one that were many feet long suggest it was shifting and not going to stand forever. That's where the weight is so just banding it may be a fruitless exercise. Its on the move. Wind and gravity on tired old brickwork will win one day.Pointing it is like pissing into said wind?

@@glennpowell3444 hello,i know theres a very tall octagonal brick chimney in carlisle city, that has been redundant for a long time,it was originaly about 20 or 30ft, taller than it is today, the adjoining mill has been put back into use,& the chimney has a lead cap over the top,it is known localy as dixons chimney, fred dibnah once worked on it,& i,ve seen a photo of him standing on scaffolding at the top, that was before it had a lead cap over it,it also has now a preservation order on it,

The scaffold erection is easy enough once you get a foothold, once you've a secure base you can keep going up.
