It's also worth noting that the campaign can be played co-operatively with a buddy through local splitscreen. Seriously, this was the sole reason my brother and I kept coming back to the early levels of this game, as kids!

DarkSoul CZ Honestly, I thought F.E.A.R. had the best health system in an FPS. You still had to rely on medkits, but at least you could keep them with you instead of using them instantly. It minimized the problem that COD addicts have with older FPS games (i.e. having to look around the environment for a medkit), but it also meant that you didn't have to constantly take cover and wait for your health to magically regenerate. But yeah I agree: medkits > regenerative health.

I am surprised by how you didn't touch on some of the worst flaws of the game! The enemies are ridiculously stupid and will almost always "banzai" charge you instead of shooting. Also, every single time you man an MG nest, a wave of enemies will appear for you to mow down so you can feel like a bad-ass. Seriously, leave an MG, then man it again after a couple of seconds and a new wave of enemies will immediately spawn! Talk about breaking immersion... I also thought that the stealth missions were EXTREMELY frustrating... I still have nightmares about that single shot pistol that takes like an age and a half to reload. Finally, apart from giving you a specific set of weapons for each mission, they don't give you the right ones for the job, nor do they give you ammo for the ones that are the most useful. I remember in a mission where you were fighting in Guadalcanal, the combat was almost always at close range, yet I was swimming in sniper rifle ammo, which at the time was pretty much useless. All in all, a definite step down from Frontline.

Something about this game really stuck with me. Both this and Frontline contrast strongly with European Assault and Pacific Assault. They have so much more character. I feel like the console limitations made EA get more creative and make the games more interesting. I also remember as a kid after all the WWII European games, this was a breath of fresh air, like FINALLY someone covered this part of the war. It's still been underrepresented I think, particularly in recent games.

I'm playing it right now on emulator and damn I didn't thought it will be a downgrade from Frontline. One of my biggest issues is the very strict criteria for earning medals, unlike in Frontline that kept the criteria from the first game which was 1 star for finishing the level, 1 for killing 95% of the enemies and another for finishing the level with 75% health remaining, here you have to complete the 2 bonus objectives on each level which isn't anything bad, but you also have to maintain a near perfect accuracy rating while also avoiding getting shot at all, because it counts the amount of times getting hit. Only way you can do this without tearing your hair out, is to set the game to easy and refrain from using any automatic weapons. The A.I. is also pretty dumb at times, friendly A.I. is always braindead, also noticed some bull when the enemy fires two shots so quickly, it's like it turned it's bolt-action into a semi-auto.

When I was a fair bit younger, Rising Sun was my absolute favorite FPS. But when I replayed it a couple years ago, the inability to fucking aim properly shattered all of my nostalgic illusions. In a game without health regen or frequent checkpoints, as well as having a focus entirely on shooting, being able to aim your fucking gun is the most basic requirement for it to be a functional product. If modern FPS aiming is akin to modern plumbing, Medal of Honor on the PS2 is like shitting in a communal ditch.
