Day before getting my MCAT score back, I was scuba diving in Vancouver. About 100 ft under water and all I could think about was getting the results back tomorrow 😅 (the few weeks before, I wasn’t sleeping much either)... all this to say that MCAT score anxiety is real dude 🙌 Love the video. I know you’re going to make it brother. Thanks for being so honest with everyone and keep the grind up 💪 it’s going to pay off 🔥

Hello from pre-med insta! :) Thank you so much for sharing your story and being transparent. Most of the pre-med stories we hear are positive ones from people with super high GPAs and amazing scores, so it’s easy to forget that in reality, this path is difficult and unpredictable and most applicants are not nearly as perfect. Best of luck with the rest of your cycle or with the next one if this one doesn’t work out - I believe in you and the wonderful doctor you deserve to become!!! ❤️

Listen my son will be entering medical school this year, his first attempt at the MCAT he deleted his test after three hours because he was sweating nauseated and vomited? The MCAT is very difficult especially when you do not know what to expect! He went on to talk to several physicians that he had shadowed, and a therapist to help him with his stress. My son is not a bad test-taker he graduated Summa Cum Laude from John Carroll University, but when he went in there to take that MCAT he lost his shit! When you stress you blank out, just relax and know that you are good enough and that you are prepared! Second time around my son score of 519, 97% percentile. You know what to expect now my friend. YOU HAVE GOT THIS!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I feel like these are common emotions to feel in regards to the MCAT, and most of the time they're swept under the rug. I am wishing the best of luck for your son in the future. I know he will make a great physician one day. Huge props to you for being so supportive during his pre-medical journey. He owes part of his success to you!

Future Doctor Tyler when will u make your next attempt? What school do u hope to go to? I will be praying for you! I do not know what state you live in? But my son is now tutoring future MCAT takers…… Let me know if you need some help as the MCAT it’s like a brain aneurysm to some people? It’s not that you don’t know the material or you are not smart enough it’s the fact that it’s the MCAT and it makes people lose their shit! Please keep us posted

Thanks for sharing, I too was disappointed when scores were released and that just isn’t talked about enough even though it’s very common. Good on you for not giving up. I would like to add though, that there are no such thing as “safeties” when it comes to med schools. Stats are important but so are your experiences, and fit with the school and their mission. Good luck next cycle!

Hey thank you so much for this comment Breanna! I appreciate the feedback. It did come off as super pretentious that I referred to that school as a "safety school." I am more open minded to this process especially after everything I have been through. It is very difficult to be accepted into medical college, and ANY accepted should be celebrated. I am sorry about that comment.

Hello - thanks for making this video! I've received some rejections and I applied late and I'm expecting plenty more. Mcat was meh for me too. But thank you for being so honest and heartfelt! Also, love your Midwestern accent! Keep your head up - easier said than done - I Totally get that. You've already accomplished SO much just by applying and getting yourself on a page. You probably have a much better understanding of yourself than you realize thanks to the thoughtfulness you put into your application. And you probably gained a lot in studying for the MCAT the first time. I've already taken it twice , but I'm guessing I will have to take it a 3rd time just to get schools to even look at me. I totally feel ya! You know more than you realize! Keep chugging. We're all in this and we're all rooting for you! :)

Also - I had a moment recently where I thought I got an invitation to interview - but it was merely an automatic response thanking me for submitting my secondary. LOL. Anyways, I felt immediate elation followed by a sweeping fall into sadness/uncertainty again. It was a reminder/wake up call to realize that emotions are so fleeting and the labels we put on ourselves are just ONE measure of who we are and our success. Measure yourself in your relationships with your loved ones (sounds like you have a loving, even if they don't quite get it, family). Measure yourself on the journey! As a physician, you'll always be learning. In that case, all this mcat stuff and writing /reflecting on yourself is a part of that learning. Just some more rambling thoughts. Wishing you all best going forward!

I’m not sure how the KZitem algorithm recommended your video to me... but I just want to say I’m rooting for you... And have you ever considered med schools outside of the US? Specifically the Caribbean... St. George’s University (Grenada) American University of the Caribbean Medical School (St. Maarten) Saba University School of Medicine (Saba Island) and Ross University School of Medicine (Barbados) I know my sons’ pediatrician sent his 3 sons to med school in the Caribbean, and now they run one of the bigger medical groups in NJ, (Riverside Medical Group) and I bet they’ve got doctors working for them that graduated from those same schools u were rejected by. I also know of a family friend who was a nurse for a few years and decided she wanted to be a Doctor, instead of getting her nurse practitioner, I believe she went to St George’s University in Grenada... Now she’s an anesthesiologist at a hospital in NYC... Anyway I hope you reach your goals, don’t give up and definitely keep us updated on you journey.
