I sure wish I had heard this video quite a few yrs ago. I'm completely and permanently disabled as of 1/1/2012 and I didn't know anything at all about Medicare and what I needed to enroll for or time limits. Based on what you stated here, I believe I wouldn't be eligible to apply for G even though I haven't applied for regular social security nor am I at FRA until 67 based on my age which 1/8/1962 at the time of this comment (FRA) occurring 1/8/2069 I believe. If I'm not correct, please feel free to correct me so don't miss out on benefits I'm entitled to. Thanks.

I turned 65 last year and went with traditional Medicare and a part G supplement, expecting to not need much in the way of healthcare for another 5 to 10 years. Little did I realize that my health would take a turn for the worse in May and I ended up seeing 4 specialists along with my primary care doctor and spent a week in the hospital in addition to more tests than I can count. My total cost for this was $226, and I can't image what would it would have cost under Medicare Advantage, not to mention getting pre-authorized for a lot of the tests I had.

It depends on the advantage plan. Plus you pay it up front. I pay $39.90 monthly, so I save every month versus what you pay, so even if I have to pay something when I’m sick, or hospitalized I just have to pay. How much do you pay monthly?

@@beautyRest1 It’s all about the pre authorization! With G you pay for the privilege of getting the care you really need without interference from the insurance company. @Lysander-Spooner

@@dpayne1943 Exactly. Plus "dis-advantage" plans have a very high total OOP in the area of $7,000/year. As a retired psychologist, I was leery of Medicare Advantage. How much of their Medicare funds are paying for advertisement? In my wonderful Plan G supplement, zero dollars go to advertising. I am thrilled with my Plan G supplement. Like another commenter, I was quite healthy when I retired. In the past couple of years, I have had multiple visits to the pulmonologist, cardiologist, and gastroenterologist, and multiple tests and procedures from each one. If I had to fight with a Medicare Advantage plan to get these tests, the stress would have been unbearable. And if I had to pay out of pocket with a big deductible or higher copays, that would have been stressful as well. Plan G is wonderful; I pay up front for a plan that keeps the stress out of healthcare!

MOST of the stress, anyway. There are gaps and holes. One of the biggest is drugs. Even with a good Part D Plan some drugs can be prohibitively expensive. Unless you are always at the doctors office, Plan N is usually a better choice than Plan G. That's what i have. The pool of retirees are usually healthier, so the annual rate increases are less for Plan N. Also, Plan G is the guaranteed issue plan, so it has to take less-healthy seniors, which means higher rate increases. Indeed, excess charges are quite rare.

Read this report: Calhealth excess charges. Plan N might sound good for now but that might not be the same later on. The Medicare bean counters did not put in excess charges for nothing. They always look into the future as in Medicare recipients having more skin in the game. Many will not be able to jump ship to Plan G 5-10 yrs down the road due to underwriting. I will play it safely as I can afford Plan G rate increases.
@ItsMe-rr9nh
3 ай бұрын
Plan N was suppose to have half the yearly rate increases of Plan G but the rate increases are starting to rollout for 2025 and this is proving not to be true as increases are high across the board and this is not only with the AARP UHC plans. Choose wisely as you do not want to be stuck in a plan down the road that you cannot get out of due to underwriting.
@markg6860
3 ай бұрын
@@ItsMe-rr9nh Well, ANYTHING could happen, but 98% of providers accept the assigned Medicare rates. Plus excess charges are disallowed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Plus the providers get any excess charges levied by them; not Medicare. The insurance reality is that the pool of beneficiaries in Plan N are healthier than those in Plan G, so the rates will be lower.

Typically the more affluent the retiree, the more likely they will select Plan G since medical expenses are easier to budget and the retiree is offloading the risk to an insurance company. It allows the retiree to concentrate on getting healthy and not on the bills. Medicare Advantage plans with no premiums may be better for lower-income retirees if they don't have significant assets to lose for out-of-pocket medical expenses.

If you are visiting and have a Suppliment Plan, you may have some coverage for an emergency (up to $50,000.00 in some cases). Otherwise, Medicare is designed for use in the United States. Hss there been a comparison between Supplement and Advantage over the life of the patient. I'm assuming hospital expenses are compressed into a 1 or 2 year period as are most of the large bills which max out out of pocket, so the gap fees would occur during this time. Meanwhile for many of the years, the annual out of pocket costs for Advantage might be smaller than the annual Supplement premium. I don't know, but the comparison in this video seems to compare over 1 year only.

Although she sign me up for Medicare on my 65th birthday because she said you have too, I'd haven't made any payment or have I been billed to my knowledge. Where should I'd go from here, since I will be taking full retirement at 66 and 8 months and they (Fed) will start deducting Medicare from my SS benefits? Thanks for the info! Dallas,Tx.

@@tomm7505 Premiums for each plan can vary by the carrier that offers it, but Plan G is typically more expensive than Plan N because it offers a higher level of coverage. However, while Plan G usually has higher premiums, it could save you money in the long run. For instance, if you go to the emergency room a few times throughout the year, or if you need to visit your doctor’s office for treatment regularly, your out-of-pocket costs with Plan N could easily add up and cost you more than if you had selected Plan G.

great video marvin. another thing to consider is some plans have a first year discount. I have anthem and got $25 a month off for the first year. that should be well know to the person picking the plan. I was not informed of that and only found out when I received a letter from anthem tell me my discount was going away starting year two. the broker I worked with was not your company but I will not be recommending them to any of my friends.

Hi. Thanks for your informative videos. I read that changes to pre authorization for Medicare Advantage services are changing in 2024. Do you have a video on that? And I think you said in one of your videos that approximately 70 to 72% of services for Medicare Advantage plans were needing pre authorization. Do you have a videos on what people are experiencing with this issue? I am turning 65 soon and am leaning towards Original Medicare with a G plan. However. I want to be fully informed. Thank you !

My advisor wanted me to try a Medicare Advantage plan this year cause my Plan G kept going up every year at least once and I wasn't using it enough for the cost of it. I have an Advantage plan that does not require pre authorization. Little fact that a lot of people don't know is that if you want to try a Medicare Advantage plan and are on a Medigap plan you can try it for a year and if you don't like it you can go back to your Medigap plan. This is a one time thing only as of right now.

I was working until after I turned 65 and so I had my regular employers health plan coverage for my family. When my employment ended in April and my family health plan coverage ended in may 2023 I started looking at getting my social security and medicare started. I did an inquiry on this with Humana for an advantage plan and it seemed to make the most sense at the time based on my discussions with the humana agent. However this whole thing with the supplemental plan G was not clear to me how that worked. I guess going forward to get on a supplimental plan G I will have to have a full medical evaluation to get on it which stinks.. Im really sorry I did not find your youtube channel earlier. I have AFib and have not been able to take my blood thinning medication for some months now. So I just have to live with the risks of dying from a stroke without it since it would be too expensive for me to get it and it seems like the warfarin blood thinner I could get covered requires blood testing on a regular basis and a little risky if they dont get the dosage correct. Oh well I may just end up dying a little younger than I had to it seems.. No worries we all die at some point anyway
