My tinnitus began after a covid vaccination and the following anxiety definitely made symptoms worse and contributed to sleep deprivation. Interestingly, my doctor found I had high blood pressure (which was a shock as I’m 31 and fit) so I began a very mild medication and was prescribed a sleeping tablet to reset my sleep when necessary. It’s personally worked wonders to help break the vicious cycle, and I really hope others look at getting similar help to address these essentials first. Thank you Ben for your videos, you helped me quite a bit during the worst of it

That can happen when you stop taking them without tapering, that kind goes away. I know I had it happen to me. In fact, I've had it intermittently due to anxiety for 32 years. Dr Ben, my gp gave me chlorazepam for one month and Zispin for 2 months after I practically begged. He is a doctor against those types of medicine. I have had bilateral tinnitus for about 14 months. My sleep has been so damaged I can go through 4 day straight periods of no sleep. I can tolerate the ringing in work as it distracts and I can play white noise in my office, but at night after the kids are in bed and the house is quiet, it's so badly amplified it scares the hell out of me.

The brain has an "amplification function" in relation to the auditory system, to wit, when one is in a very quiet environment or is experiencing anxiety..."sound" will be amplified. Studies are available that demonstrate that both Xanax and Zoloft reduce the volume of Tinnitus due to a reduction in anxiety. These medications can be helpful as an initial treatment intervention prior to TRT, sound therapies and electronic devices.

I had suffered from tinnitus for 10 years when I had a severe episode of lower back pain - a spasm that put me in bed for two days. As I now know is often the case, my Doctor prescribed Valium (Diazepam) to relax the spasm. It also immediately stopped the tinnitus for a day or two. I had no idea that it could do this - nor did my Doctor, but a little research showed it to be a well-documented effect. I had another spasm a year or so later, but this time the Valium made no difference. I suppose that is because I was hoping / expecting that it would. Such is tinnitus.

SSRIs do not work for me. I had genetic testing. 0 efficacy. They just don't work. SNRIs work but come with extreme side effects, tinnitus is the worst. I take a .5 lorazepam daily. I'm trying to get off of it. I take zolpidem 12 mgs. for sleep. And I wake up every 4 hours. I have to have the TV on when I sleep. I need to hear a soft voice talking to me when I sleep. Bob Ross is good. When I wake up with nightmares, I startle and feel scared if the TV is off and the room is dark. Having the TV on gives me perspective. "I'm here. I'm safe. I'm in my bed. I'm listening to Bob Ross. It's all good."

I am awaiting to see an audiologist because of what I believe to be tinnitus. I have hearing aids already (prescribed). Years of high sound exposure and hereditary hearing problems are likely a cause of problems. I have a question to ask Doctor Ben Thompson. Is it normal for hereditary hearing loss to occur gradually? I've had many of ear infections as a child and getting older. How does hereditary hearing impairment work?

Helpful, but I do have to say though, as far as turmeric goes, my rheumatologist suggested a 3 month “trial” of turmeric upon my diagnosis of Sjogren’s Syndrome two months ago, before putting me on hydroxychloroquine. He was hoping to avoid putting me on yet another drug. The turmeric had absolutely no effect on either condition, but did have an effect of making the acid reflux worse in cycles, which in turn worsened the insomnia that had developed with the onset of tinnitus from so many years ago. It is like a crazy short-circuit that I need to interrupt somehow.

She should not be giving advice about tinnitus since she has no understanding of the disease. If you go to a professional doctor who specializes in tinnitus they will tell you that alot of medications will cause the tinnitus or make it worse. She doesn't have the knowledge to address that condition so remember she's not a tinnitus doctor

Just because she’s a doctor and Ben is drooling over her. Doesn’t mean she’s right. I tried SSRIs made tinnitus worse and side effects were bad!

The effect of SSRIs (Sertraline in my case), like all else in this damned condition, does seem to vary widely. I was on a moderate dose for a year. for reasons not directly connected with tinnitus. In my case, I don't think that it made any difference for good or ill. Respect for your different experience though.

I have been taking Paroxetine for 5 years. For me it was an excellent medication. But it made me sleep too much. I switched to Duloxetine and within few days, I developed a very severe tinnitus perceived in the brain. I stoped the drug and the ringing is still there. Awful.

Please discuss this with your provider who prescribed the medication as Audiologists are not MD's and cannot prescribe medications.

This treatment is not specific for tinnitus , and in time tinnitus is getting worse, this is the real problem , is very good to eat healthy but for sever forms is frustrating.
