With all due respect, I personally think the answers were very neutral and on the fence and that comes across, there isn't anything wrong with giving your honest opinion. I personally think doctors should influence national policies more and shape health care via politics etc but I also think that many feel they aren't allowed to express themselves. I want to change this when I qualify.

I do agree in part doctors should be allowed to express their views but for medical interviews you dont know who your interviewer is most of the time or their biases its much safer to provide a balanced response mitigating ur own risk

I understand your point but i think for the sake of a medical interview what they want to see, is that you can provide balanced and appropriate responses based on all the information available, and avoid biases or letting your emotions and opinions overide having clarity on the subject

Was this a strong candidate?

Yes indeed, this candidate was generally very strong. The questions asked were quite generic medical school interview questions, so ideally in your interview you will have prepared bullet point answers to questions like 'Why Medicine', 'Why not nursing?'. You don't need to memorise a whole paragraph, but write BULLET POINT model answers. This candidate had not prepared before hand with memorised answers, so was slightly more freestyle and his answer lacked structure at times, but in general he was very good.
