Lovely educational video. Nice to see the YT algorithm send me educational stuff instead of silly whining about Marvel films and crying about diversity. Good stuff mate, subbed!

Thank you for addressing the issue of the Eagal. So many reenactors wear those as if they are common to all of the middle east or , a *generic* Headwear to the greater region

This seems like a stupid question but did the ummayad caliphs always wear white turbans? As an artist I would like to avoid as much mistakes as I can while painting a scene. Another thing that came to my mind was about the yellow color/gold (I´ve read muslim men avoid that) since the later caliphs seems to have wore quite a lot of brocade... Thank you very much.

White even today is far and away the predominant color for turbans.

Turbans came from Central Asia

Turbans didn’t originate in Mesopotamia but among the Aryans in Central Asia. Tying a turban on the head of tribal chief was a common practise back then indicating transfer of power or kingship. It still happens in Afghanistan today. Pre-Islamic Arabs wore the igal and ghutra which is more suitable for the desert climate.

turbans were part and parcel of arab culture prior to islam for centuries it has no such relation to central asia other than it being adopted by the locals after islamic conquests
