Emily the Naturalist is the naturalist/wildlife biologist currently on the Carnival Luminousa (2024 season) and was brought on board in Otaru to Seattle! She is a 23 years old, who lives in Fairbanks Alaska, where it drops to a balmy -52°F in the winter. She is also a wildlife conservation biologist with a focus on marine mammals like whales, dolphins and sea otters. This makes her third year as a naturalist for Carnival and her second time on the Luminosa. I had 8 shows planned for the sea days crossing from Japan to Alaska, with information about what animals to look for from the ship, the geology of the pacific ring of fire, the Bering Sea history, WWII sites in the Aleutian Islands and more! Every morning Emily will be leading deck nature walks to help passangers spot animals and other cool landmarks they may pass by on our journey. She made announcements throughout the day from the bridge, giving tidbits of information about the route and some fun wildlife facts!
We sailed over the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, the deepest trench on the planet! It is 11,000m (36,000ft) deep and contains strange animals like the elusive Anglerfish (the scary one you might remember from Finding Nemo!😂)
