@@JordanTaylorVideos hey Jordan, look into an owlet or similar monitor that you can put on your baby’s foot at night and it measures their heart rate and oxygen levels. An alarm will go off if they dip too low and it can give you much more peace of mind so you don’t have to worry so much. Blessings to you!

My husband and I have a similar story of newborns with amniotic fluid in their lungs. My firstborn was born vaginally, so it isn't just feet-first c-sections. I was sleeping and I vaguely woke up and heard my husband take the baby out of the room, and I heard talking. He came back in a minute later with the baby. She had aspirated on amniotic fluid and was turning blue. He, thankfully, was awake and rushed her outside to a nurse, who flipped her over and gave her the baby heimlich, then suctioned her mouth and nose with a suction bulb. I found out about all this after I woke up. My husband did not sleep well while the baby was sleeping for a couple weeks after that.

Even though the mother may be the only one feeding, picking up slack everywhere else and being moral support is huge. Obvious but worth mentioning: rocking the baby, changing diapers, doing baby laundry, washing baby related dishes.

Babies change appearance like crazy in the first few months. All three of my sons don't look exactly like they did at birth. . .like two of them were born with dark hair and one a redhead that fell out and then they all became blondes. Your story with the fluid in the lungs is so scary. I am glad you heard him and such. Owen is adorable. I have a friend with a year-old baby named Owen! It isn't a name you hear often these days. Congratulations to you both and rest easy! Nice to get an update. I didn't expect one for a few months!
@thevansickelherps

One thing is that during vaginal delivery, much of the amniotic fluid in the lungs in actually squeezed out due to the sheer pressure of being pushed out. Excess fluid in the lungs is actually not uncommon with cesarean deliveries. Still absolutely terrifying, nonetheless! I'm so glad your little man is okay! I have 3 kiddos, and I remember during my last delivery with my year old son, as soon as they lifted him up once I'd pushed him out, the doctor said "oh wow, he has a true knot in his cord!" All the nurses in the room swarmed to see. True knots aren't super common and can end catastrophically if the knot becomes too tight before birth or during delivery. 😮 It's something I'm honestly glad I didn't know about him having before he was born, because there isn't anything you can do to fix them and I would have just been a nervous wreck if I knew.
@BickyToya

I agree. I feel like with c-sections they need to do something extra to make sure scares like that don't happen

@@BickyToya agreed! I'm sure during initial APGAR scoring and during routine brushing checks, the initial pediatric visits babe gets while in hospital, etc, all look for signs of extra fluid, but clearly things can fly under the radar for a while and it can be so scary for everyone!

Congrats guys! I can relate to you guys so much right now, my son is 8 weeks old now and I had a C-section too. My surgery was unplanned after 28hrs of labor though, but I can understand your emotions with Owen's breathing scare. I teared up with you retelling that because I know the emotions behind it. I hope your recovery is going well Sarah, mine was brutal and I'm still experiencing nerve pain. Also I highly recommend chiropractic care for Owen as C-section delivery is very very rough on a baby's neurology as the doctors pull on the baby's head/neck to get them out. Stress on the vagus nerve causes a lot of issues in baby's, like colic!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your scary moment in the hospital. Talk to your pediatrician about it possibly being a SIDS episode. It could have been the fluid but it sounds to me like it could have been SIDS episode. SIDS can run in families. All three of my boys we're on SIDS monitors when they slept and did have some episodes. Thankfully, the monitor went off, made a loud noise and scared them into taking a breath. They are all happy healthy and in their twenties now.

I promise you it will save your health (mental and physical, you can only go so long without sleep!) and sanity. And you'll eventually have some energy back too, plus be able to enjoy your little family better! I promise that if you give it a chance you will not regret it. I was being cheap and thinking I could manage without it and lost over a year of good sleep because of it. Don't make my mistake!
