Hey - this is a important message from CBC. Since filming this video, the toxic, misogynistic and exploitative nature of BrewDog’s working culture has been exposed by brave accounts from workers and a BBC documentary (link below). As such we no longer can support the brewery in any way, but are leaving this video up so others can research and understand the allegations and evidence in context. We also leave it up in the hope that the brewery will examine its considerable flaws and atone for them, improving for current and future employees, and allowing them to once again become a force for good in beer. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0013yfj

Great that you clarify this, it is definitely the right call. I still want to like Brewdog but you can’t ignore all the stuff that has come up. Let’s hope they can turn things around.

We love Brewdog over here in the US too. My friends and I buy almost every bottle we can get our hands on when we see it. Keep up the great brewing, I hope you get big enough to distribute more in the US.

Did you ask James why he was constantly trying to de-carb his own beer by swilling it around?

I KNOW! Clocked that in the edit. I guess he is releasing aromas... or sending beer signals to spies.

I know this is an old video but its something thats been bugging me for a while. I love Brewdog beers (most of them not the 20 quid ones). But I get the feeling that they have sold their story as a couple of guys who stumbled upon an IPA recipe brewing in their kitchen and then managed to sell it to the masses. But Martin Dickie was a commercial brewer with Thornbridge so its not a stretch to think that he would be able to brew good beer even on a homebrew kit. Also for the conspiracy theorists there is more than a faint similarity between Punk and Jaipur (I am led to believe only one hop difference but dont quote me on that) Did he mention anything about his brewing past off camera? For some reason he never metions his time at Thornbridge and I have no idea why other than to push the rags to riches dream story. I am not trying to have a go I just wondered why he never mentions it.

It's true he did used to work at Thornbridge, and in fact was one of the people behind Jaipur. They are very different beers now though as Punk has a much bigger hoppy aroma (more simcoe and addition of Nelson) - I bet there are similarities in the rest of the recipe though. They definitely keep it quiet as it ruins the clarity of the "rags to riches" message, but if the heritage of Punk is a bit more corporate than they claim, I think their brewery story still stacks up. They would have had no money at the start so definitely the first few brews would have been on old kit and possibly a disaster! With Brewdog we have to accept that James has built a brand rather than let it develop naturally, so some stories are a bit too perfect and rounded. I wish I'd asked some more searching questions in this interview to be honest. I think we were a bit too eager to please!

cheers for the answer... just seems odd not to mention working for a top brewery but I guess he has his reasons. i will just keep enjoying their beer.. maybe I can convince him to setup in Bayern ;-)) they seem to be building one in US based on job adverts i have seen

Not an odd question at all, I mentioned the Martin Dickie thing to some people lately, some of them have successful youtube channels, and they didn't even know the story about Dickie and Thornbridge/Jaipur and it is now 2018. I have heard them tell this story many times, even in the same room as me, and I only stumbled across an article from 2015 a while ago when for once Martin Dickie was profiled about his past, and that sort of made me think like you did. Wonderful beer though, Jaipur.

True, but we shouldn't worry too much with private equity. It's nothing like a megabrewer that will introduce anti-competition practises, downward price pressure and contract brewing all over the world. Kinda sucks, but there is life and passion in Brewdog yet. But they are not quite the company they claimed to be.
