This is really smart. It's not just black people who could benefit from having korean beauty products in their skin tone, but lots of dark skinned Asians exist too. (South Asians, Southeast Asians, even some East Asians have very dark skin tones that society generally doesn't make beauty products for.) And K beauty is at the forefront of beauty research and tech rn so it's a great idea to start that business in korea. I'm really excited for her, and it just reminds me of the time some friends and I were discussing kbeauty and an indian friend wanted to try it, and we had to tell her they just... didn't make things for her skin shade. Hopefully that won't have to happen anymore 😊

My understanding has been that lots of south east asian countries have a lot of stigma around dark skin. It was associated with "lower" respected jobs and class, poor people tend to do more manual labor outside and thus, they get tanner darker skin. This stigma has evolved and been amplified by western beauty standards and media. It impacts people so much that people began to bleach and lighten their skin using dangerous chemicals. Unfortunately, companies saw this, and prefer to make products for lighter skin tones, with a biased perspective filled with stigma, not understanding or considering that people like their original skin color and want products to enhance their normal selves, not use make up to become paler. I'm afro Trinidadian and chinese Trinidadian, and my dad is a white jewish guy. I get very pale in the winter and very brown in the summer if I tan for 15-30 minutes. I was really upset after going to korea and finding out a body wash I had bought at olive young was actually a bleaching body wash. It's very scary, and not cool. I'm glad this woman has started her business. Colorism sucks.

Not only will her brand expand, but this will also provide jobs, for not only Africans in korea, but other people of colour who are passionate about beauty and I'm really happy and proud of her initiative!

Her vision and product are empowering for any poc out there! Even if this 'just' a makeup brand, its a step closer to inclusion of every skin color in a industry that has been taking over the world. im also here because my friend was one of the models and she looks absolutely stunning!!💗

Go girl. God bless her and her team. And yeah, it's as if Nigerians are almost everywhere. And I'm glad she seems respectful to the Korean culture. If I were to go there, I'd love to use it Seems like it will not only embrace black people but also dark-skinned Asians. This is some good revolution❤❤

6:22 that's my best friend right there!!!!! so fun to see her shine like the sunshine she is in this video! I think this company is a great initiative for black people and people with a more tan skin color, since I reckon it's difficult to find beauty products for their skin color in Korea and other East-Asian countries!

OMG. So good. I have tried korean foundation and everything but it doesn't suit me skin because I have a yellow undertone. Their skin care products are amazing but for makeup it kinda doesn't work on darker shades. Or maybe I am one of those sufferers of buying online products all the way from India. But can't deny their skin care products. It's just out of the world!!!

Incredible story, thank you Asian Boss for sharing! As a person of colour living in Asia I believe that businesses like these can also serve as a means to educate local people and facilitate discussion around race and skin colour. Let's address the misconceptions surrounding darker skin and embrace beauty in all forms.

I’m Filipino and a lot of my friends were obsessed with not wanting their naturally dark tanned skin to get any darker. It’s very sad that the mindset was to sought after light skin when South East Asia is tropical and dark tan skin should be celebrated. Go girl and open up the market of dark skin beauty! It’s there in Asia for sure.

Amazing. EDIT: the title was updated! Thank you!!! Before edit: But for journalism standards, stop using clickbait headlines when we know she isn’t the first black startup founder in Korea..don’t give half facts, have some integrity. The headline diminishes all other black startups.
