The fact that Ivan has been able to keep the appeal of the firearm aesthetically, and if anything, reimagining it in its own style as a modernization of classic and loved gun designs. I agree with Bfish mostly. One exception being in a state like mine where you cannot print the "reciever" but all accessories are fair game AND the other way. If you can already hot swap uppers, it would behoove you to have a wider recoil spring (possibly with adapters, hopefully not) and the largest type magazine (possibly enlarged to accommodate dimensions of other rounds). I'm not saying one mag could shoot them all, but if you designed each mag with the same external dimensions, all the sudden your upper swap can vary alot more. Just an idea that sparked reading your post.

An excellent presentation by a very informed individual. The Monolithic Design was the final iteration of what the AK Internals need in order to not disappear from Continued Use in firearms applications. The internals are simple, robust, and reliable. The Swiss Watch of gun guts. Scaling this into the 308 and then the M7 round will be necessary. The Optimum mag to me is the Original 308 Galil Magazine style because they were built for adversity, as opposed to all others. The other next Caliber needs to be 6ARC and Mike at CSSPEC would be the man to engineer the 25rd mags for that. Most of what I had envisioned for the AK Monolithic has been done here by this man. The Ejector solution is all him, that is GREAT! Certainly I have other ideas, probably about 3 more, but this is an evolution, and he is doing excellent.

Damn, the amount of work you do is crazy. Really appreciate it. I think it's extremely important knowledge and we NEED to gain the ability to build our own firearms. We can't really ever be truly Free until we have the ability to build their own firearms (good, effective, working, reliable, dependable firearms). I really do believe that we already have the technology now for any person to make guns/parts in his own home... including metal/steel parts. We just have to put it all together and make a system with the technology we already have. (...and I hope in the future that we learn how to turn matter into energy and then back into matter again, so people can build anything they need in their own homes instead of it being manufactured and shipped by large companies. I'm sure it will be a while before we have "replicators"... but I do believe it's scientifically possible).

If there wasn't stuff like registered parts, and you could just buy the stuff like lowers, professionally manufacturered, basically nobody would care about printing parts at home that have extremely worse quality than the professionally produced metal/plastic parts. The 3D printing movement started *because* of the ATF/gun control. the complete opposite of being hindered by it - gun control is the driver of 3D printed firearms parts becoming viable

With all said, the gun is not serviceable, while AK disassembly takes 6 seconds. That is a major downside. That and general reliability. It's more important than pinpoint accuracy, rails and all that. Because if you loose one gun out of 10, the effectiveness of a squad automatically goes down 10% and one of your soldiers turns into a water cooler boy (or ball boy if we're talking tennis). You can carry an additional rifle per squad but that's just insane.

NATO adopted 5.56 because the US adopted 5.56. FN designed the SS109 cartridge for the Minimi Light Machine Gun with a 62 grain fmj bullet to maximize the suppressive range for 5.56. The US adopted the 1:7 twist as a compromise to stabilize the SS109 cartridge, to taking advantage of the longer range capabilities and to stabilize the standard US 5.56 tracer round, which has a longer, heavier bullet than XM193 and SS109, because it's imperative that your tracers have the same point of impact as regular rounds, otherwise they're useless. Of course, they also tweaked the design of the SS109 to give it the steel "Penetrator" soft steel core to make sure it could go through a standard NATO steel pot helmet and liner at 100 yards with the slight loss in velocity. SS109 was designed for the 18" barrel in the Minimi and XM193 and M855 were designed around the standard 20" rifle barrel used in the M-16 series. That led to underpenetration at the extreme ranges M-4 carbines ended up being used, a perfect storm between losing velocity from a heavier round and a shorter barrel. The Special Forces had their own ammo developed using a 77 grain Sierra Match King bullet (MK 262 Mod1) to maximize accuracy and help retain velocity at extreme ranges, which helps with penetration. Fun fact, because M855 is used in both the M249 SAW and the M-16A2/M-4, and is made to the same specs in the same factory, M855 fired through a rifle or carbine is inaccurate, because SAW's require a cone of fire for suppression, not pinpoint accuracy. Instability is built into each round with the steel penetrator and inconsistent (but safe and milspec) powder charges. M855A1 is made to different specs, since it uses a solid bronze or copper bullet (with the steel penetrator tip) and might be more accurate in rifles. (I haven't done the research on that, but there's not a lot of independent sources on it, either). A similarity ocurred when the M-14 was the issue rifle and used the same 7.62 ammo as the .30 caliber machine guns. They had inconsistencies designed into that round for the same reasons. Of course, they designed the M-14 to be an all around solution: a pin point accurate rifle at extreme ranges and a suppressive weapon, which it failed at both using standard issue ammo and being uncontrollable in full-auto.
