Meeting Balti People in Turtuk located in northernmost part of Ladakh and borders Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan area. The remote village, located in the Sheyok river valley about 200 km from Leh Ladakh.
Turtuk is a northern most village (major settlement) in India. We visited this beautiful Turtuk during our trip to Leh Ladakh. Turtuk has been part of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Indian Army gained control of Turtuk during 1971 war. The village was a part of Baltistan area of Pakistan administered Kashmir. Not only the village the people in Turtuk are most beautiful by heart, always wear a smile & provide the best hospitality. I would recommend to one extra day to plan for Turtuk in your Ladakh trip.
