The meeting of the waters, where the Steavenson and Acheron Rivers meet in Buxton. It's a lovely spot to swim - although I wouldn't recommend visiting on long weekends. It's best to avoid it during busy holiday times. That's when you can expect crowds of tourists to come out to play - and it's not pretty. They usually leave quite a big mess behind! That's for the locals to clean up, of course...
We first visited after floods and heavy rain in the summer of 2023-24. The water was brown - so we were pretty careful.
A few months later and the water has completely cleared up! It's not as fast flowing as it was (which was fun), but it's nice to be able to see the bottom of the river again.
There's a rope swing there, but use it with caution. There are some very sharp rocks along the river and if you don't know exactly where they are, it could hurt very badly!
We've been lucky to be able to have the place to ourselves many times and enjoy the quiet.
If you happen to be reading this because you are thinking of visiting, please don't be one of those tourists who sets up with loud music, beers or even a makeshift shisha lounge... It's not very considerate. Please take your rubbish home! There are no bins here. Lastly, do not stack up the river rocks to make your own dam. It's not very environmentally friendly and it will be dismantled by people who know better. Thank you.
