Intercontinental Hotel, Hanoi
September 28, 2016
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with members of the Filipino Community in Vietnam at the Intercontinental Hotel in Hanoi on the first day of his official visit.
Speaking before hundreds of Filipinos, President Duterte talked on the current situation in the Philippines such as the peace process in Mindanao and the fight with the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), the problem on drugs and narco-politics, and the territorial disputes with China.
“I will not leave the presidency in shame and leave a big problem like the addicts multiplying in millions… kung hindi ako ang naging Presidente, hindi ninyo malalaman kung ano ang totoo at kung gaano kalala ang bayan,” said the President.
The President also announced that he would visit China and Russia to open the doors for investments and establish new alliances for trade and commerce.
He was warmly applauded when he assured the Filipino community that his administration will be a clean government and there will be no more harassment in the Bureau of Immigration and Customs.
“I will not allow that. I’m just asking you to let me know your problem and I will take care of it … I promised these things and I will do it,” said the President.
According to the data (as of April 2016) of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are around 3,800 Filipinos living and working in Vietnam.
