The drummer (Gar Samuelson) and the other guitarist (Chris Poland) were both older than the Dave's and played together in a jazz fusion band called The New Yorkers prior to joining Megadeth. There's jazz all over Gar's drumming, the guy was a BEAST with a drum kit. Thanks for the video my friend good stuff!

The first song from the first Megadeth album. What a Hell of a start. This album is just insane. Young, hungry, really pissed off (Especially Dave Mustaine after being fired from Metallica), ridiculously talented (Chris Poland on lead guitar alone is one of the best guitar players to ever lived), musicians, on pretty much every drug known to man plus booze put in a recording studio. I mean, this, The Skull Beneath The Skin, Rattlehead, and the title track Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good, sound like nothing else by any band before or since. This whole album is literally Madness personified.

when i was a kid in back in 93 i was big into megadeth (still am) and my uncle was a big funk guy. he kept saying "my music" was acid rock or jazz derivative. he was not wrong. i think of Megadeth as the worlds only Jazz/Thrash band. Mustaines playing sits right in the pentatonic minor blues box at cocaine speeds. he finds lead players who play well outside of that blues box and melds the differing styles. what results 75% of the time on the tracks is a kind of jazz/thrash fusion. its why deth is favored among guitar players.

Megadeth were signed very quickly around 1984, but unlike Metallica, the members were hardcore drug addicts... both (late) drummer Gar Samuelson & guitarist Chris Poland were using heroin in the studio while Megadeth were recording this debut album "Killing is my business"... Dave Mustaine (vocals & guitar) admitted that the sessions were problematic, cos half the tight budget was blown on "food & dope"... Mustaine also co-produced the album. Mustaine wrote 'Love to deth' about his infatuation w/ a woman he thought he couldn't have ... he originally wrote the intro 'Last rites' on acoustic guitar, but played it on a piano in the studio. He remembered his former band Metallica opened their first album "Kill 'em all" w/ raging guitars on the first track 'Hit the lights'... Megadeth's first album 'Killing is my business' opened w/ 'Last rites' which was a one-eighty with the piano intro into the thrash metal album... The guitars on the songs were a signature of Dave Mustaine's 'shrieking' lead guitar sound that defined his style of playing 🤘🤘🔥🔥 He wanted Megadeth to be different from Metallica's brand of thrash metal...

Thank you Randi for playing some Megadeth off their first album. This is the first song off their first album and it sets the tone for the rest of the album, pure raw energy. Dave put all of the emotions of being fired from Metallica into these songs and you can really hear it. Thanks again for listening to the original version and not a remastered. While the remasters are better in sound quality, they lose something big in the remixes. A few more things to say about this song and album. First, Gar Samuelson, the drummer here, was a Jazz drummer. Read a statement once from Dave saying Gar's playing was different than other drummers. That is probably the reason why you noticed the drumming/guitar rhythm and solo parts seem odd but sounded great. As for the song, per Dave, it's boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl does not love boy, boy kills girl, boy dies and goes to Hell, boy finds girl in Hell and now she wants to hook up with him but he's over her. Here are two ideas for later videos. The first is a twofer... Listen to Nancy Sinatra 'These Boots are made for Walkin' first then listen to Megadeth's original cover of the same song, 'These Boots'. The song is one off this same album. Must be off the original 1985 album. The remasters are either bleeped or re-sung. Second, off this same first album is 'Looking Down the Cross'. It has religious overtones. Waiting to hear your next Megadeth reaction.

There is a remastered version of this song that sucks ass... All of the viciousness is gone. They actually wait for the classical bit and the sound to finish before starting the first riff.
