timjenkins502 Total classic.. Music and lyrics written in 1 night by Mustaine upon hearing of Cliff Burtons death in 1986.. Days after it happened.. And not from Metallica.. His supposed friends.. The lyrics themselves are not about Cliff or the situation at all.. But the song came from hearing of that news and how it felt not hearing it from the guys he formed Metallica with.. And days after it happened from someone who didn’t even know Cliff.. That in itself is fucking horrible.. Imagine finding out your friend and band mate is dead days after it happened and from nobody you shared time with together with him.... Just thinking about that makes me angry.

They just have these big catchy beats that pound at yer. Also with metallica they show more diversity (one, orion).... that said. Megadeth absolutley trounce them on lyrics.... And raw like agression. I can hear a uk punk influence in sfsgsw.. Lyrics to peace sells are so so genius. So metallica got the slick grooves and those magic earworms that can cause a hit. Brian P. It was Menzas last with the band. He left 1 year after the album released. He came back a few times over the years but never on tour or on record.. A shame he was an outstanding drummer. Marty left on the following record when Mustaine said that Megadeth needs to return to Metal.. Friedman wanted to do more pop and synth shit.. Ellefson agreed with Mustaine. Megadeth is a Metal band.. The drummer at the time joined the band to play Metal so he was game.. And by god is his drumming on TWNAH insane. Interesting period in the bands history.. The golden era ending and entering into the repair and rebuild era.. For reference we are in the return to form era now which could depending on the next album and if it’s as good if not better than Dystopia then we could be seeing a new golden era in the band to rival the Mustaine/Ellefson/Friedman/Menza combo of the 90s

You’ve had your first taste of radio friendly commercial sounding Megadeth.. It’s still Megadeth their style and energy is still all there.. There’s some great stuff that came out of this period when it came to expanding Megadeths sound. Cryptic Writing was Megadeths 7th album (Rust is their 4th) Some fun facts.. Dave plays this live with a twin neck guitar. It’s epic! Trust is their first song to ever get number 1 on radio when it was released.. The other singles off the album did well.. But not as well as Trust.. Their following album Risk went a little to much in the direction of radio for most fans and isn’t very popular.. It has good songs on it.. But not songs you really want Megadeth to be putting out.. The album after that they went back to Metal and continued from that album to now releasing better and better albums as they go.. Their latest album Dystopia (2016) is probably in their top 5 best albums.. Obviously that depends on your tastes but I think it’s their most well thought though album since the mid 90s in terms of focus and quality. They are working on a new album right now but because of Mustaines throat cancer there has been a slight slowing down on that front while he gets that sorted.. So it’s looking like a 2020 release. 4 years between release.. Making it the longest wait for a Megadeth album ever. 😬🤣 I’m patient though.. I can wait for as long as it takes.. I know it will be worth it.. They are on a roll right now as well because of the success of the last album and it’s high quality.. It’s aggressive for sure. It’s not as fast as other albums like Rust or parts of Endgame.. It’s more like Peace Sells but modern.. Different but more in that realm.. You’ll understand when you get to it.. There’s no rush.. Megadeth have about 200 songs.. Very few can be considered ‘bad’ and even then you might like them.. Your not a dye in the wool Metalhead so it could work for you. It’s usually the hardcore metal guys that hate the stuff off Risk and Super Collider.. The more open minded enjoy it for what it is.

Like Metallica, megadeth got more "radio friendly" in the 90s.. shorter songs, catchy choruses.. their low point was "Risk" in the late 90s, which was just.. weak.. but they bounced back and steered doing their own thing again in the 2000s. @continentalaquatics2725

thanatos144 Friedman > Hammett, [insert name here] > Lars, Ellefson vs Trujillo?...Tough because Trujillo isn’t credited on many songs because Metallica is basically led by James and Lars. James vocals > Dave vocals, James vs Dave guitar? Tough because James is a machine as a rhythm guitarist and Dave is excellent as well. Dave uses more single-string olympic-style riffs (think the chorus from “Jump In The Fire”) and James uses big, chunky, elaborate guitar parts (think the main riff from “Sad But True”). Both men are within striking-distance of each other guitar-wise. Overall, Metallica seems to compose better songs overall, but this is just a matter of opinion. Megadeth DOES know how to keep a song under 8 minutes...which is usually a good thing. Megadeth tends to get in, do their damage and get out sooner, which is a very good thing. When Metallica gets together, bigger songs with more longevity tend to come of it. Megadeth may have more individual talent, but Metallica has the songs.

Continental Aquatics Dave is way way way better at guitar then James is and all the lead guitarist Dave’s had are way better then Hammett and I think most of the drummers for megadeth were better then lars , now rob for Metallica is a bad ass bass player and Metallica hasn’t put anything out worthwhile in almost 20 years, first 3 albums were filled with Dave’s riffs , megadeth has i think 17 studio albums to Metallica’s 10 I think , megadeth has definitely always been much more talented then Metallica and they speak to me much More
@continentalaquatics2725

Metal Steve I’m mostly in agreement with you, but James vs Dave (guitar-wise) is likely splitting hairs. Megadeth put out far more albums than Metallica, but Metallica is one of the two musical acts that can sell out any stadium across the US and Canada (the other being U2). There’s a lot of money in touring, so Metallica’s management keeps them touring. Case in point - Metallica was still touring the “Hardwired To Self Destruct” album that was released in 2016 until 2 weeks ago when James entered rehab again for reasons unknown. Those dates are being postponed. I forget the names, but the lead guitarist and drummer on Megadeth’s Rude Awakening DVD we’re better than Hammett and Lars, respectively...no argument there. I think you’re right about Rob Trujillo. I prefer James’ vocals to Dave’s (but neither are great singers if we’re being honest) and their approach to songwriting as guitarists are different, so it’s hard to tell who is better. I prefer Metallica, but I like Megadeth a lot.

It’s the best version sound wise by far.. If you really want that raw sound listen to the original 1985.. But I’m telling you as a fan listen to the 2018 version. It does justice to a muddy original sounding record the drums actually come to life like nothing you’ve heard before on the 2018 version because it was buried in the originals muddy mix.. The rawness is still all there but the sound is so much better.

It's a hoot! I've been listening to Megadeth since Dave Mustaine left Metallica and started his own band. They are technically Superior to a lot of other bands and Dave puts together music very ingeniously. Most of the albums are great but only if you listen to the original cuts, remastered sucks stick with the originals not the official The Originals. I'm 47 now I have been listening to Megadeth for a good while. Another great band from that error but largely overlooked is apocrypha, the one song I can suggest from that album The Eyes of time is Father Time definitely a song that has not been at all reacted to by anybody on KZitem. And Yeah Cryptic Writings and Risk was the record company trying to capitalize on mettalicas success with their transition into mainstream metal. Wasnt the record company.. dave wanted to go that way. He said risk should ve been a solo album. He knew it was to soft for megadeth fans but he got the guys with him do... marty was absolutely behind this first there were interviews... and yes cryptic is different but a great album... risk has some good tracks still, if you dont expect thrash... world needs a hero was like picking up the old stuff again.. i say theres no bad megadeth album... just be open. I come from the mid 80s Hardcore punk scene and aldo grew up with thrash.. Strange, if xou look at voivod fans, we love the guys for being diverse... or Rush, same thing.. but straight metal heads are very caught within certain patterns or call it clische... Good music is good music.. now i put on death... ;)

@@jensbaumann6945 it took me a while to get used to the new singers voice, I liked chucks screams on Symbolic and Perseverance the best. I think I have a voivod tape but I haven't listened to them since high school. I'm soley a record guy now and voivods originals are a little hard to find. Nothingface is the tape I have

Love this album ;) Spent many years listening to it off and on when doing chores around the house or at work. Definitely a good groove type sound which is easy to 'work' to. Peace

This and Countdown to Extinction are very close in sound when compared to Metallica's Black album! Compare the sound of the two albums and you will hear it! I think this can be said about a lot of the albums that came out around the same time or slightly after. He held quite the grudge after being kicked out of Metallica that every album was an attempt to out do Metallica! He was pissed! I thank God for Metallica doing that because we got 2 great metal bands instead of just one!

All of your vids you say you like the structure of the music. Dave based it on Jazz.

Someone informed me about that. Megadeth is a metal jazz band.

You should also check out Testament, my favorite thrash band, they have evolved so much from their early days, but damn near everything is really good from them.

Megadeth is very consistent, each song is a journey and it’s just really beautiful to listen to the instruments talking. Metallica is a great band as well, but for me Justice For All was their last great album. After that MTV and hair cuts took over.

I'm a new subscriber & that's one fabulous review-- I LOVE your video background during the guitar solo!!! By the way, you remarked on Dave Mustaine's growly vocal style-- As a founding member of Metallica, he was surely influenced by James Hetfield.
