Megan as an artist for me is so hit-or-miss. When she raps, she's HUNGRY. She has a ferocity that most rappers could only aspire to. But her often repetitive, surface-level lyricism and reliance on raunchy, club-hit, choruses that less benefit the album and moreso provide a soundtrack to a worldstar hiphop twerk compilation really let her down. And not to beat a dead horse but the production here isn't great. A lot of good ideas but poor execution.

Honestly the biggest problem as usual with hip-hop in the last couple years is a combination of too many songs and not enough identity within each of them. Feels like hip-hop is in a transition phase right now but with no direction. We’re playing with trap still even tho we’re kind of done with it, but the new sound hasn’t really been found yet so we’re just kind of…stuck here with more of the same until it shows itself.

This is why people are commenting that she is probably going to stick around. She might never break into genuinely experimental sounds throughout her career but she doesn't need to do that in order to become a respected and positively viewed artist/figure in culture. Other examples of artists who have done this would be J. They are marketing her wrong because these albums are still written to appeal to teenage listeners. Her audience is getting older, but the record label isn't letting the music age with the audience. For a lot of the lyrics, even in songs that Fantano liked, you can hear how the writing is carefully put together by a record label to astroturf a celebrity that appeals to a 17 year old music fandom. The music just doesn't end up seeming as versatile or having as much artistic potential as what Megan could create without the label keeping a tight leash on her public image.

I actually really like this album, even more than I liked "Good News." I do think it would benefit from less tracks. The album is very top and bottom heavy with that looses some meat in the middle. Some of the sex-jams just feel sprinkled in and not tying into the overall theme of the album. I do really like "Ms. Nasty" though. And "Scary" is one of my favorite tracks. Both Megan and Rico are Halloween girls and the vibes matched that campiness. Maybe it would have worked better as a single released separate from the album.

The album is trash. And y’all keep saying she talented but she is literally a ONE trick pony. Same flow, same weak bars. She will not top Tina Snow. Your mixtape was your best body of work. But that’s how most these new artists are. Wish her well; thank god she has a degree to rely on.

Megan and Lizzo are on the same tier for me. They are both superstars that have a minimal musical discograhy that is even worth listening to. Megan is a more of a brand than she is a musical artist. I think that this trend/capitalization is toxic to the industry, but mostly everything is going that way. The corporate push and "popularity" of "artist" is not good for actual music/musicians. I hope that this will die down, but don't see why as it is so easy to pick an individual that people have an affinity for and then give them so much capital around their brand, while leaving musicians and other orignal artists that people will listen to for a lifetime and pass down to future generations far in the rearview. Not that I expecteed anything more, but it's sad to see.

The music industry has always cared about pushing a brand and popularity way before Megan and Lizzo.Musicians who don't want corporations telling them what to do unfortunately will not make it to stardom nowadays.

While I kind of agree with you, I’ve been hearing the same thing since the 80s. The push and pull between artists, industry, and consumers is never going to make everybody happy. I agree with the various comments about her needing different/better producers. To me, she pretty consistently sounds good, but also sounds like she could/should sound better.

I can understand you may not like this album or Megan's music, but to take this as an opportunity to try to discredit and belittle her (also Lizzo for some reason even though there isn't really a strong comparison tbh) is very telling. Just because an artist makes music that you don't care for doesn' mean you automatically get to do that and it is very weird when people do. One project does not define them or make all of their music "not worth listening to"
@steff6146

Saying Meg’s discography is “not worth listening to.” Told me all that I need to know. I don’t think Traumazine is an incredible project, but she does excellent on her mixtapes as well as Tina Snow and Fever. She has bars that people quote regularly, and she has breath control, charisma, and writes everything she does. Just because YOU don’t like it, and she’s basically a “pop-rapper” shouldn’t discredit everything about her. Musicians have been a “brand” for decades. Most people can’t name more than 5 Elvis songs.

I was just listening to it, and it's a very strange album. For many albums, you get like 2-5/10 that you really like, and if you are being honest, even if the rest are good or good enough, they just don't do anything for you. This album feels like there are none of the 2-5. Weird, is that many of the songs feel close to being there, like they are missing a little of this or that with the melody or something like that. But also many of the songs have a cheap feel to them too - like those would need a lot more than just a little extra. Her rapping deserves better!!! So whose fault is this? Fire them!!!

I absolutely love the first half of the album. The opening track is great and the next few tracks that follow are solid. After that, the album becomes a little less consistent. Especially with that awful 💩 feature on ‘Who Me’. No idea who that man is but I’m glad his part comes at the end so I can skip it. I don’t really like Sweetest Pie and don’t think it fix the rest of the album at all. But once again, I’m relieved it’s at the end and not in the middle of two good tracks, even though I would’ve appreciated a different closing song.
