I'd say the mega-tall skyscrapers are more a testament to the EGO of the builder/country putting it up. Or maybe a bit of overcompensation, like lifted trucks that never see mud . . .

It's the counterweight that would be needed until construction of the two towers is joined I'd be worrying about. Unless they do the same as with the cranes and just build the arch first and keep jacking it up and building the twoers under it?

Most people have forgotten about the Burj Khalifa's proposed sister tower, the Wiz Khalifa.... Supposedly Nappy Roots was not a fan of the idea, stating: "Aww naw, hell no!" This may be due to a lack of interest in the proposal for the Nappy Tower... 😆🤣

The only skyscrapers you're going to see is those from corporations. I see no mega building where you will enjoy as a citizen. Impressive architecture has always been a sign of what human civilization can accomplish. The pyramids, Taj Mahal (prolly spelled wrong) Eiffle Tower, Empire state Building. Could go on. These stand as achaivements of engineer, building, material science , team work and so much more.

You know, if we actually used the level of funding from some of these proposed megastructures on something practical (homelessness, poverty, and income equality come to mind), we might eventually end up with regional and global economies robust and reliable enough to complete some of these megastructures. Just a thought.

Do not think that would ever be considered a sky scraper. The thing is the cable the elevator climbs is not a livable or usable structure for anything other than to be climbed. Would you call a single kilometer high shaft of steel standing straight up from the ground with no floors or living space or work space a sky scraper? Space elevators are much more like a vertical railway than a sky scraper.
