On Tuesday, leaders of the militant organisation Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council held a briefing ahead of the first formal peace talks with the government, commencing in the first week of June. Apart from leaders of the HNLC, interlocutor Sadon Blah, also president of Hynniewtrep National Youth Front was also present during the briefing. Prominent HNLC leaders, including Manbhalang Jyrwa, Aristerwell Thongni, Storgy Lyngdoh and Raymond Lapang shared their thoughts on the upcoming peace process.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that talks for peace with the outlawed militant group of Meghalaya, the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council, will begin early next month.
“The deputy chief minister had met HNLC members yesterday along with their interlocutor. The formal talks will start in the first week of June,” he said.
Blah said the outfit has put forth “conditions” for the peace talks, without elaborating further.
