Kalaburgi (Karnataka), Jan 14 (ANI): Gulbarga, also known as Kalaburgi in former days is well known for its architectural, historical and religious importance. The city encapsulates a number of religious sites which are well known across the country for their syncretic ambience. One such site is the Shrine of Mehboob Subhani Sani situated in the Niloor village of Gulbarga district in Karnataka where people from different religious communities flock this monument of religious unity. According to narratives given by the residents of Kalaburgi, some 450 years ago, Saint Syed Shah Ismail Qadri travelled from Baghdad to Deccan plateau in India. Disseminating secularism and humanistic values among the residents, the saint soon became popular by the name of Mehboob Subhani Sani or Dastagir, which means a person who helps everyone. Paying respect to this holy saint, the Dargah observes two ‘Urs’ annually when people from different religious communities throng the dargah to seek his blessings. The Shrine has thus become a symbol of religious tolerance by drawing people from different faiths who leave aside their differences and pray for peace and harmony.
