Is it me or does this lens look really sharp ? Not bad for that price point

I guess you can't complain at the price. With the price of vintage lenses rising ever higher you might well get a modern take on those lenses without the issues ( fungus, dried lubricant, haze, etc ). 😉

For this price it's good enough, I remember buying my first prime lens - the 50mm 1.8 from Sony, i was truly impressed how better it was than the KIt lens. In my opinion such nifty-fifties should be sold with bodies instead plastic kit zooms. I have a few lenses but "fifty" - Zeiss 55mm is my favourite, versitile, light, simple and sharp.

Thanks for the review, Chris! Is it just the lower resolution KZitem video on my phone (watching while I commute), or is there fairly consistent colour fringing in those corners, even when you stop down? P.s. I enjoy seeing what books you’re reading while you review the lenses.

I should use it on a Sony a6300, two questions: 1) does the lightmeter works properly when changing manually the aperture? 2) is there a feedback while manual focusing (does the focus point light in the display) ? Many thanks

Mine had some serious issue with apertures. I ordered a new one from Amazon and got its apertures covered with leaked oil :( At a first glance, I just thought that it won't be a huge issue, but I found that oil kept leaking as I changed the f-stops. I had no choice but to send it back.

Not sure about this lens - for the canon system anyway. Canons nifty fifty is in the same price range, has AF and a similar optical performance. Why should I choose this lens then?

What do you prefer, this kind of cheap native lenses or old adapted vintage lenses ? And why ?
@nilswegner2881
5 жыл бұрын
I prefer old lenses because I can use them with my film slrs as well. Especially those nikon f mount lenses, that I can mount on my Nikon film slrs, my Nikon d60, my Canon eos film slrs, my Canon 700D and of course on my Samsung mirrorless. And soon I will also be able to mount them on my Sony a7m1 when I have the money to buy it. If I only got one of those new mirrorless only lenses I'd lose the ability to use it with my slr cameras which would be a nogo for me
@nightcoder5k

I prefer using old adapter vintage lenses with the TechART Pro adapter on my Sony A7ii, which turns my vintage lenses into AF lenses. For video, I use native lenses for AF.

@nilswegner2881

It sadly looks like they have which is such a shame as I'd still love to have a big heavy dslr one day. I'm quite happy with my 700D already but I'd really love a 5Dmk4. Sure, a Sony emount mirrorless is nice as well and I'm going to buy a Sony a7m1 soon but it's never going to replace my good old dslr as my main workhorse

One question to you, Chris: Diffraction should be the same for all lenses (same sensor size given), right? Do you see lenses that are sigificantly better preforming at F11+ (or F8+ on apsc) than other lenses, given that they preform simmilar at lower F stops (or where the one that preforms worse at apperatures where diffraction kicks in, is better at their peak compared to the other that has better preformance under diffraction). I dont believe it is possible, because diffraction is a physical phenomenom not really related to the lenses quality ,but still im wondering, if there are lenses that cope better with diffraction.
@christopherfrost
5 жыл бұрын
It is my experience that I've noticed some lenses responding slightly better to diffraction than others, but frankly, I don't understand the physics of it enough to really know why.
