I recently purchased ST XTA coilovers for my 2020 Miata and am contemplating whether to install them just yet. I've only been driving the car for four months and have covered 3000 miles on the stock suspension. My first concern is about improving my driving skills before upgrading the car's capabilities; I'm wondering if I should spend more time with the stock setup to better my driving first. Additionally, I've watched your videos on sway bars where you mentioned that upgrading them made the car handle so well it actually reduced the fun factor for you. I'm worried that installing coilovers might have a similar effect by making the car too good and potentially diminishing the fun of driving. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you!
@TheLemonFactor
6 ай бұрын
The swaybar upgrade made it feel like it’s on rails, with almost no body lean. As a result it takes away some of the playfulness in being able to controllably toss the car around. The coilovers with the adjustability allows you to customize them to suit your style allowing you to keep a lot of the tossability. Hope this helps.

I have had these on my NB Miata for 8 months now and I am very impressed. I got mine for $995 shipped before they raised the price to $1195. Phenomenal value. These coilovers ride absolutely fantastic and improved the handling dramatically to boot. If you are looking for a track/auto X option these springs are going to be too soft. For spirted road use on rough roads these are one of the best options around IMO.

Good to hear! Thanks for providing feedback. What drop are you running and what are your damping settings?
@Elbenito84
3 жыл бұрын
Pretty close to the same height but I've dropped the rear to 13 3/8" as well but added about 4 MM of preload to keep the rear off the bump stops at highway speed. I started out too firm and found the best grip at 15 front 17 rear. Makes the car really tossable. 14 in the front rides better for me but grips worse. It's worth noting I have progress sway bars so I'm using the damper less for body control and more to generate grip. Also at 30 PSI on stock Bridgestones.

Did you install the sway bar before or after the coilovers? Just curious how much of a difference the sway bar makes on top of the coilovers as the coilovers have helped out a lot.
@Elbenito84
3 жыл бұрын
I installed the sway bars before so it's hard to say. The sway bars made the car more eager to rotate and planted but if I could do it again I would have gone straight to sways. Honestly, adjustable sway bar links should be your next move. You would be surprised how much prepaid there is stock let alone after lowering. They made a huge difference for me.

Hello, I'm sorry that you sold the Miata but if you change it for another sport car like the supra I'm happy for you ahah. I have a 2021 soft top mx5 that I daily drive, I would like a firmer and lower ride with less body roll, what do you suggest and in which order? I tought Meister like yours first, and after maybe 2 sway bars (I don't know which because I'm italian and I still don't know which are the best buy... finally some spacers, I thought 15 mm that isn't too much but atleast visually is better, ah and I also wanted to remove the plastic flaps from the rear arches unfortunatelly cutting them because they are a single piece with the mud guard. What do you think about these mods? Thank you and keep up with the content, I'll continue to watch your videos of future cars ahah.

Thank you for your support, Emanuele 👍. Both coilovers, or a shock/spring combo such as Konis with progress springs, and an upgraded front sway bar will add a noticeable difference 😁. I would recommend starting with the shocks/springs / coilovers as it will give you a firmer, lower ride improving your cornering. If that’s not enough for you, then you can upgrade the sway bar.

Very late to the party... 😁 fwiw over ten years ago(the company wasn't going for long at that stage)I got a set of Meister R's for my JDM DC2 Integra type R. I can't recall the model, but it was the 'basic', no top adjustment or solid bushings. Fitting was easy, as was adjustment and the change in settings was obvious, though height adjustment wasn't great, either low or very low. Now that was a long time ago and only for my car model so no doubt that's changed quite a bit since. The owner of the company Jerrick was very active on forums and extremely helpful and open to questions and advice. Nice guy. So, over ten years later, after 140,000 kms? Still going strong, with almost no obvious corrosion or wear. And this car is my daily, in sun, rain, hot, cold(I'm in Ireland so mostly cold and rain😃), motorways and twisty back roads, often on truly awful road surfaces. So I can say as far as longevity and value for money goes i can't fault them at all. They also tightened up the handling, on a car that's already very well regarded for same out of the box. My original shocks/springs(which i still have)had only 30,000 Kms on them so I wasn't replacing a tired set where anything would have been an improvement.
