Mel Bonis (1858-1937) was a brilliant French composer, who struggled to have her compositions performed and published in her lifetime. Thanks to the tireless efforts of her descendants, her pieces continue to become more accessible, with new publications and recordings highlighting her exceptionally beautiful works. Her “Scènes de la forêt” was first published as a piece for French horn, flute, and piano, though it may be based on Bonis’ earlier work for chromatic harp and wind instruments, on “pastoral themes.” Performance: March 22, 2022, Emory University.
