One of a kind. This man had a talent as big as Mount Everest. We will never have another Mel Torme.

Right Kenny. Mel was so professional, from the old school of Hollywood studios star training. (No B.S. story) I'm retired now, but back in the 70s and 80s I was the Assoc Director of Publicity for the Sahara Hotel, Las Vegas. One afternoon, out of the blue, a call got transferred to me, and it was Mel on the phone -- that voice. "Hey Dan, this is Mel Torme (as if I wouldn't recognize that voice !!). Could you reserve a couple of seats for the midnight show for me? A couple of friends of mine from LA are coming in to see me." A lot of big stars performed at the Sahara in those days from Johnny Carson to Don Rickles, to Jerry Lewis, Tony Bennett . . . but I can still remember how happy I was to first talk with Mel Torme. He was such a cool dude, without even trying.

Fabulous voice, lyrics, and music...these qualities don't seem to exist anymore, and if they do you won't hear it on the radio!

Yeas ? underrated ? Wow, soooo great Mel was. Frank was a fan of Mel. I'm lucky as a NL = Netherlands , Europe kid, I already learnt to know him in like 1971 I think. We had a great Radiomaker who presented Mel early.. XXXXXX Mel Tormé. thanks mate, bless you.

I knew he was drummer as well as a singer, but I never knew he played piano. What an amazing voice he had, what a great singer.

Wow. MELVIN TORMA (Polish- Jewish), "The Velvet Fog"! Perfect phrasing, stylish chords, and that be-bop scatman playing! Torme'(a) co-wrote the family favorite " The Christmas Song", with Nathaniel (King) Coles specifically in mind to sing it. RIP 🕊

Wow, I thought Buble was based his style off Sinatra... but this has to be his main inspiration. My first time hearing him. Mathis is the goat to me, but this guy has a whole different kind of voice. He doesnt use a lot of vibrato, its the phrasing and velvet airiness.
