So sad... My husband went to high school with Melanie. She gave a concert and would always walk with a guitar on her back. As for me, being French born and now living on Melanie's territory in New Jersey, this is with this song we remember Melanie, for the French line "ils ont changé ma chanson." RIP and thank you.

There was no auto tune in 1971; the digital technology didn’t exist. The sound came from the set up ( the ubiquitous “ sound check”). How do I know? Because I was just out of a technical apprenticeship with Marconi in Chelmsford and working as a sound technician for the BBC; my first job.

@@travis8665 They say "no autotune" because "Autotune" was introduced in 1996. The keen observer will note that 1971 was a few years BEFORE 1996. 🤦♂️P.S. I'm almost 19 in June. And I wish I could've seen her then. I wish I could've seen those days. I'm not the kid to say I was born in the wrong time because of the hate that saying gets. But then elder people say it's sad my generation will never see or feel what life really was like. How it was to live. Be young wild and free. But I really wish I could've felt the way life was. Living more free. No phones. No computers. School wasn't online. The government was more for the people by the people. And not for the government by the government like today. 40-60 cents for a gallon of gas. Seems pretty good to me. People saw you as your appearance. Not some online status that you're know as by people you don't even know. Being able to walk around and not care what people see you as. Because everyone was different. And themselves. Not trying to be someone else.

This was my favourite song in 1970/71. I’d spent years of being sexually abused by Catholic Brothers and a Priest at a NSW Australian boarding school and under the dreadful pressure of a Mum who had Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I made the decision to leave Australia for a Government job in Australian administered Papua New Guinea. Melanie’s song voiced words that spoke to how my life (not song) had been wrecked and gave me inspiration that I could make “everything alright”. I did. It took many years, study and professionally qualified, before I reached happiness., Lived around the World but happily back in Australia now. In my 70’s now and still listening still listening to and loving Melonie’s songs! Thanks Melonie!

It’s a comfort to know that many from the current generation are discovering all this wonderful art. And, as much as their contemporary music is a part of their modern lives, the artistry, storytelling, vocals and musicianship of our generation’s stars is making quite an impact, and many converts, to genres they’d never have known, but for their reactions. It’s a pleasure to relive these performances and share their excitement upon first-hearing.

i first heard this song in the early 90s. i bought a cheap cd of mixed 60s 70s music from a garage i lost the cd in a move. i didn't know the artist or the song name, after countless attempts to find the song and goolge searches over 20 years I thought this would be just a vague memory. And today it pops up randomly on you tube along with her rendition of ruby Tuesday. long live the algorithm.

What Melanie is singing about is the Hellywood 'elite' who run the music industry. These gifted musicians sign a contract with stipulations that the words to their music may be edited (or replaced) by the satanic filth using double entendres that are subliminally influencing ALL who listen. They are damned. I feel for these musicians...they were tricked/seduced into signing these agreements for fame & fortune. She most likely was given this song by these creatures to 'tell us' what they've done and are STILL doing. Just one example: "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard" by Paul Simon...is essentially putting foot tapping music to words about PEDOPHILIA.!!! Now, they are devouring our children right before our eyes! Jesus is on His Way! (Thank God)

@@gigicoyle4245 I understand that. I'm the art type who's had his work bastardized by locals. What I, personally don't get (and never will) is why a Korean war vet found this so interesting that he'd play it over and over to the point of me recalling it all these years. I do like the song. Kudos to Melanie. Fine work!

My Mother passed November 29, 2017. She loved to sing. I inherited my voice from her. People would ask us to sing at events. I was shy and still am. I am now 34. When I hear this song it reminds me of when I get frustrated during difficult days. Then I smile. My Mother lives in my heart and is with me in spirit until I meet her again when my time is up. Thank you Melanie Safka. Thank you for uploading this beautiful song. ❤

Lisa Marie If you like singing and you say you are shy, Well just sing and to hell with what anyone else thinks about your singing, It’s not their life it’s yours to enjoy and do whatever you want with it, Do you tell people how to enjoy their life, You only live once and it’s a very quick life so enjoy it the way you want to. If you have a beautiful voice sing to your hearts desire.
