Being from the US, I never knew about this sport for the longest time. Started watching in 2018, and decided on Melbourne to be my team. Their story reminded me of the Philadelphia Eagles, having to scratch and claw for decades just to get to that final hurdle and hoist the trophy. Since the pandemic started, I’ve had more opportunities to watch, since nothing else was on for months, and ESPN was separate for something. Watching this game took me back to watching the Eagles win the Super Bowl. I know how it feels for Melbourne fans, that moment finally arriving and the floodgates open. Congrats Dees, do it again next year

Melbourne won six flags in my first 9 years of life and I couldn't remember any of them being too young to take them in and remember them as well. I saw them fail in two more Grand Finals before this one. All I wanted was one I could remember. This flag and the way we won it makes up for a lot. Soccer is very low scoring and that’s why AFL is more enjoyed. Soccer is soft and for losers. AFL is more competitive, Hard, Tough and can always be high scoring and exciting games. As a dogs POV: the first quarter was so sloppy, we kept handballing it and making mistakes, the second quarter was amazing 6 goals and we were all over them. The start of the 3rd quarter was good as well after a couple goals, but after the fritsch goal. I knew they would run away, once they get a goal u can’t stop em, and it was just embarrassing as a dogs supporter and from there on it was just dees. It was closer than it looked like. And people say we choked with a 19 point lead, but there was still like 15 minutes left in the third + another quarter, there’s plenty of time to win. The one positive as a Dogs supporter is that each season is different, and teams can get smacked in big finals and turn it around the next year, like when Collingwood lost a prelim to Geelong in 2009 by 73 points and then won the flag a year later. But we've gotta adopt the "Dusty Model" and isolate Bontempelli even more forward, because he's a trump card that we don't otherwise have; the guy is a great contested mark and can definitely bag 40-45 goals for us next year (he kicked 31 this year) by spending more time forward and basically getting all his touches forward of centre. We've also got to find better ways to isolate Naughton and create space for him to run and jump, because he's a 60+ goals a year forward when he's playing well. Every Melbourne player knows his role, whereas the dogs are still trying to find the right balance for guys like Bont, and English and even Bailey Smith. Future's still really bright.

As someone who can sympthaise with supporting a club that hasn’t seen much success I’m so happy demons won. From being 21 up at qtr time, to 19 down half way thru the 3rd, to winning by 74. I was going for the dees and this is this first time since the dogs won in 2016 the team I was supporting won the gf! (I supported Adelaide in 2017, Collingwood 2018, GWS 2019 and Geelong 2020) So thanks demons for breaking 2 droughts lol Me and mum tipped Melbourne to win by 20 and 12 respectively, in my pre match prediction I tipped doggies to be up at half time but Melbourne to break the game open in the 3rd (which they did, but I couldn’t of expected them to win by how much they did). We did the animal prediction test w my dogs w dog cookies (like they did with the quokka). Unlike the quokka they actually picked the Dees. To win by 74 is crazy after being down less then 2 quarters before. The margin doesn’t do the game justice, I genuinely didn’t know who would win up until the 4th. One of the best games I’d ever watched until it got blown out, BT nearly having a stroke, Brayshaw commentating his nephew, Daisy Pearce one of the first MelbourneW players seeing her team win. And my home town put on a show! I never thought I’d ever see a granny in my city. Some people I know know Trent Rivers and Luke Jackson, I couldn’t imagine how crazy it’d be as 19 year olds playing together in a flag in your home town. I couldn’t say enough good things about this grand final. I miss day grand finals at the G, but Optus provides a nice alternative. WA is definitely the second biggest footy state, maybe even first but Vic’s don’t consider us Australian cos we’re tOo FaR. I agree most gfs should be at the G but even 1 every 5 years having it at Optus, or another big venue in Aus if ever they build one. Perth fans never been given the opportunity to go to a gf, so of course the atmosphere was unbelievable. I think BT even said the noise was illegal. But we’d always put on a show no matter what team because we’re a city that lives and breathes footy. I just hope we didn’t spend too much on the entertainment and pyro lol. But seriously what a week and what a granny, lived up to the hype, Congrats Dees, congrats Simon Goodwin and Max Gawn and co. so happy you guys got up. Drink it in, i have no doubt you’ll be a top team for years to come.
