ʻŌiwi TV’s original music series “Mele ma ka Lihiwai” presents a new season with ten featured artists. In the first episode, we feature the Hawaiian music trio and graduates of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, Keauhou. Sharing with us some of their original compositions, Zachary Lum, Jonah Solatorio, and Nicholas Lum, explain how each mele was inspired by the places they grew up in, learned from, and enjoy to visit. Their aloha for the places they cherish and call home is evident in the lyrics and melodies heard in “Māʻeliʻeli”, “Kāhiko Kapālama”, “Aloha Maunalua” and “Hanohano Haʻikū”. Accompanying Keauhou on steel guitar is their hoa and well known musician, Jeff Au Hoy. Throughout the episode, our host, Amy Kalili, strings together the beautiful mele with a bit of walaʻau, or talk-story moments that highlight the stories behind each mele performed. Enjoy this first episode, and those of many other talented artists of Hawaiʻi on “Mele Ma Ka Lihiwai” only on oiwi.tv and our Spectrum digital channel 326.
