No, the CCP and Xi in particular are wildly popular with the Chinese people and a significant portion of the Chinese population has some form of membership in the CCP. The enemies of the CCP are enemies of the Chinese people. America was cool with China as long as the Chinese people were sweatshop workers for western owned corporations. But now that China is developing its own tech companies, like Huawei, that are disrupting the western tech monopoly cartels, this infuriates the west. Westerners believe that the only purpose of third world people is to work for western owned corporations that exploit them to generate profits for the first world. Now that China is becoming economically independent, they big mad.

Look at what they did to that MMA fighter who easily beat the ever loving shit out of those fake tai chi masters in fair, sanctioned fights. Basically ruined the guys life because that's how absurdly petty their authoritarian regime is. The context of the joke doesnt even necessarily imply that Chinese citizens cant complain at all about their government, could easily just be implying that they fear the potential consequences of complaining.
@Nickel138

You have to realize most Chinese people don’t even consider questioning their government. As Americans, it’s how we were raised. When I asked my sister in law (who spent her whole life in China) what she thought about something Xi said, she was like, “If he said it, then it’s true.” She also didn’t know that Tiananmen Square incident even happened. They’re just not raised to question what the government says. It’s very strange to her that we criticize our government. The government gives them a lot: Education, healthcare (my friend had surgery for $70), unemployment insurance, workers comp, maternity leave, etc. But they don’t know how much the government is taking away. It’s a tricky system over there.

Mohan Zhang Since the CCP has given their approval to the program that took body organs from at least 200,000 people without their consent (only 37 registered organ donors in China in 2015. Also see:”Bloody Harvest” report) and since China has a poor human rights history and is known to treat political prisoners harshly and to practice censorship it seems to me that they (CCP) might see their political interests served by harming Melissa Chen . Were that to happen, I expect it would intimidate other journalists who cover China. The journalist kashiogi was murdered recently by Saudi Arabia. Daniel Pearl got decapitated just perusing an interview with a known twrrorist. So,yes journalists like Melissa Chen are brave. The CCP obviously would be fully aware of her opinions on China and strongly dislike them. Oh yeah, the CCP committed arson at the Epoch Times not long ago. There is another reason they might harm her and why I think she’s brave (and sexy too!). Go Melissa Go!!

I won't be surprised if she is funded and has certain agenda. But it is fine, people have agenda and different views. Political freedom is quite horrendous in China I agree, other than that it is not so much as evil as how media here painted. Same that US is not all gun and violence as some Chinese media painted. Epoch Times is a cult called FaLunGong. Those believers burnt themselves as a complaint when government comes down at them as how most cults in US ended (Jonestown massacre). Chinese gov didn't go and lit them. Also I had a family friend who was involved so I have very little sympathy towards those who still promotes it as "Freedom Fighter" when in reality they are just cult clowns survived because US govt want to keep them as leverage.

Being Chinese (born in Saigon with a viet name) my wife side are all in China. No one talks about visiting China and witnessing with their own eyes that it is so amazingly different and same over there. One of the fundamental difference is that they have 1 billion more people than we do in the USA. Do you know how many infinite number of ways our lives would changed if that was the case for the USA? For a single example out of a possible of millions; heard of the term 'cluster fck'? Everywhere you go and everything you do there is someone looking just like you competing against you. Now, that's the entire population of USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Europe combined. Our political system and everything else would collapse. I can go on and on about how the govt feels a need to bring the ppl together and be fair to as many as possible at the same time balancing so many more issues due to the sheer number of ppl. In the similar ways to the USA, they love cars and our luxuries. Fake Gucci/LG bags, fancy cars, fine dining, big events and concerts, TV shows, America jeans, chocolate (oh they love chocolate from the west), and countless many others. When you see how America goes from open capitalism and free everything to tougher and tougher control over everything. In reverse you see a strong controlled communist country slowly becoming more and more open to free everything. Smart future thinking people already know in a century the ideological differences will be rather small between the West and China (maybe even Russia). The culture on the other hand will and should stay the same. A quick one on culture. Growing up in America I learned that we order food in singularly for ourselves. Each individual has his/her own order. There is no such thing as family style eating with friends and or co-workers. In China if you do that you are considered selfish and frowned upon. Then you might make the argument BUT germs this and that. Then they will in return say "you think you are better than us" when you show no family value? Furthermore, in America we learned to hug and kiss our parents as kids but they leave us at 18 years of age. In China that is absolute disrespect for the parents because they expect you to stay home as long as you can (to take care of them who took care of you). They don't like PDA, not normal. Love is not defined by hugs and kisses.

So true. Coming from the West, I assumed our systems worked well and should be modeled. But after living in China for five years, you realize that even the best systems can't handle 1.4 billion people. It's impossible to treat every individual differently when responsible for so many. Look at the difficulties India goes through with their voting process. I wish we could have a deeper conversation on China v West issues instead of casting it as some hero and villain film.

In your country it is illegal to invent something and offer it for sale to anyone who might be interested? Because in the USA anyone who wants to is FREE to start a company offering a product or service. And if nobody wants it, guess what? Nobody has to buy it and they go out of business.
