Exactly what brown Indians said when white Brits were helping themselves to the equivalate of $45 trillion from the Indian economy over 200 years while press ganging four million Indian soldiers to fight Britain's wars from 1914-1918 and then again from 1939-1945. If that wasn't bad enough, Indians were banned from entering certain places in their own country by their colonial white rulers. I'm sure they also said, our once great capital city now conquered territory" to which their white rulers replied, Fcuk you!

@@sudgur990 They weren't press ganged . No one from the empire was forced to fight and that makes you a liar. As for trade people both sides made vast profits only India never put it to use for the greater good . By the way we are sending £55 million this year and have been doing so for decades. You still have people shiting in the street though.

@@keithrose6931 Selective history lessons meant colonial history was never taught properly in schools and therefore there's no recognition of the wrongs that were done. i.e the atrocities and devastation the Empire caused. The fact that Britain financed its industrial revolution and its prosperity from the depredation of the Empire. The fact that Britain come to one of the riches countries in the world in the early 18th century and reduced it after 200 years of plunder to one of the poorest. In a post Brexit world Uk are doing their utmost best to secure trade opportunities with India. Expect Britain to relax their immigration rules to secure a trade deal

I'm not a drinker. I lived opposite THe Good Intent for 29 years and never once entered but this was a great and educative video. I moved from Walworth to Bexley after 29 wonderful years in 1983 and STILL miss it every day. The Suburbs is fine bit soooooo quiet after living over East Lane Market by The Walworth Road with The Old Kent Road at the other end...

Grew up living in Saltwood grove, Date street and Portland street, and went to Michael Faraday School, from 1947 to 1973 when I moved to Colchester. The Temple Bar was a favourite at the weekend for the groups and singers. I used Georges barbers next door for most of those years. Wouldn't want to go back there now, sooo changed.

@@DingBatSplat Thanks, My Friend though 26 years is a long time at Michael Faraday :) Funnily enough in 1959, I was within days of starting there when my Grandad died and we had to move to near East Lane market and so I went to St.Peters. Not only has it changed enormously, but in the last 3 years it is unrecognizable with £1,000,000 Flats at The Elephant and the view from The Elephant with the Shopping Centre and Heygate EState all gone looks COMPLETELY different like Space Age City....It is incredible:)

After that a brief spell in a flat that no longer exists, nor does the road, it's part of the big park. Met my best friend in Date Street in 1963, we both had Triumph Tiger Sports Cubs. His name was Malcolm Gage and we were best friends for 56 years until he died at the age of 72 in 2019. April 1969 it was 6 Aycliffe House in Portland Street as a married man with a son until January 1973 when we all, had a daughter in October 1970, move to a new house in a village South of Colchester, Layer De La Haye. Lived in Felixstowe, Ipswich, Amblecote West Mids, Tividale West Mids and finally in a small North Wales coastal town by the name of Abergele. I seem to remember there was something about the church attendance and shortages of places (I'm a 'baby boomer') so I went to MF. A Welshman by the the name of Llewellyn was the headmaster and he retired as I left. Most of my pre school time was spent at my maternal grandparents in West Sussex, a small place called Runcton.

Terrific video and accompanying music - loved seeing some of the old pubs that I used to visit with my Dad - quite often stood outside with a bag of crisps and a bottle of pop, lol. Remember the Surrey Arms Hotel on the corner of Manor Place and Delverton Road - it was called 'Roses' by everyone, I think because one of the etched windows had an advert for Roses Gin. Lucky it survived, because a lot of the windows regularly had a chair thrown through them on a rowdy Saturday night in the '50s and early '60s when I was a kid growing up in Marsland and Tarver Road. Thank you.

Oh my God, I've drunk in some of those pubs. I used to go down Manor Place quite a bit, the old swimming baths come boxing hall were down there. Used to go swimming there too.. Incidentally (which I'm delighted you have shown) The Beehive, Giraffe and Red Lion were so named because there used to be a zoo there. From Camberwell heading towards the Elephant it was on the left all around Manor Place. There was an underground men's loo on the corner of Walworth Rd & Manor Place, when demolished in the late 60's they found bodies from the plague behind the urinals, as they did on Heygate Street and the flyover at Old Kent Road. WHY YOU HAVE NO MORE THAN 49 SUBSCRIBERS IS CRIMINAL> Thank You Dick C.

My uncle John and grand dad bill ( both knight), in the back row, they lived at 2 Lucy Ashe house , peacock street, I went to school at crampton street primary, virtually next door to the roebuck, I was actually looking on here for another pub the horse and groom , affectionately known locally as the Jews house, the landlord was Sid cohen , this was a stroke of luck and I'm chuffed to bits, I've been able to show my grandchildren a photo of their ancestors , especially there great great grand dad.
