Memories can never be fully trusted, even when you grow up. I have a degree in English Philology. In my linguistics class, the professor taught us that our memories are susceptible to biases and flaws. Sometimes we remember stuff that didn’t happen. The reason is that the brain needs to paint a full picture of everything that happened and when some parts are missing from our memory, it simply fills the gaps with what sounds credible and logical (with respect to our experiences). One day, we did an experiment. The professor told us a narrative and we were not allowed to take notes. It was about two men from a different country and a different culture. On our next class, we had to recount that story. None of us could remember the exact events. Instead, we had made up a different story in our minds that better reflected our culture and habits. We had distorted the truth. The takeaway was that witness testimony should not be trusted since we can overlook some experiences and actions all the while exaggerating others. Now, this makes me wonder if I remember things correctly...🙄😁 P.S. I’m sorry, I can’t say this in Spanish. Not yet. It will take me days of research to find the right terms and vocabulary, and I kind of want to say it now before I forget it, if you know what I mean.😆

Here we are talking about personal memories. And you are writing about your professor's story, which the students (which is very common) listened to half-heartedly. And the next day they had to fantasise a lot of things. I, for example, have a very good memory. And clearly remember various situations from when I was 3 years old. And I don't need to make things up.

People also "edit" their memories, making them better or worse than the actual events. The "edit" may depend on whether you are an optimist or a pessimist. Song lyric from American singer/songwriter Paul Simon: If you took all the girls I knew when I was single And brought them all together for one night They would never match my sweet imagination Everything looks worse in black and white Another person commented on this editing process: Some of my best memories never happened. All of which is good reason to keep a journal. I've done so for years and when I read past entries I sometimes discover that I had completely forgotten the event or remembered it differently from how it happened. Journals also offer perspective. You could read how you were so upset about something. But the something turned out to be forgotten or an event and a reaction that you can actually laugh at now. It is well-said: Pain plus time equals humor.

I already have a photographic memory , unfortunately It is mostly controlled by my subconscious so It Is only available when my subconscious says so and not when I consciously try to call It up. Perhaps that is actually fortunate though ? I also do have false memories which I know from going through old national geographics and seeing the difference between what I remembered and what is actually there , however , since there is no static way to proof , It could also mean that there really are parallel Universes . With my photographic memory I can actually go and look around to check things that really didn't register . I have actually used It so it's not imaginary . I should add that the memories are objective , there is no emotions memorized , It's like being in a room and being able to look around at things in the room , not what you were thinking when you recorded the images .
