I visited her on June 6 for the 75th anniversary of D-day, she looks AMAZING! I visited again the following week and just cannot get enough of the exhibits. Absolutely amazing museum and staff. I really enjoyed watching this ceremony and appreciate it being available to view. God Bless America and all serviceman. Thank you all.

So nice to see her again and properly restored. I visited her in the early 90's when she needed so much love on Mud island in Memphis. I was shocked she was open and many had gone on board but when I found the doors open, I respected this treasure, closed all the entrances and even kissed this lovely lady before I had to go. Now her place in history is safe for all to appreciate and honor her and all the crews that served, as well as those who that are still on duty for our nation.

I saw her on display at Mud Island also in the 90s, we was there on vacation to visit family. I remember back in the 70s when I lived in Memphis seeing it on display by the road I think on Popular Ave. if I remember correctly. I know it was sitting on display one one of the major roads there across town from where I lived. It looked in really bad shape then. They had to clean it up and paint it before they took it to Mud Island. Correction, it was on display at the old Fairgrounds in Memphis near the Mid South Coliseum before it was at Mud Island.

I was born and raised in Dayton OH and lived for many years across the street from the current location of the museum at what was once called Wright Field. I remember many times as a young boy standing at the chain link perimeter fence watching as mechanics and other ground crew worked upon or moved various aircraft about the parking ramp near the hangars. Mind you there were still more than a few propeller powered aircraft in the USAF inventory during this time. Living there was a wonderful experience for me and I am happy to know that "Belle" is at the same place where tests were conducted on the first B 17. A fitting tribute to an outstanding and iconic aircraft from that time period.

Hi there. Hey, it did the same thing to me too! I want to share with you a really great book, it's called " A Higher Call " by Adam Makos. It's a true story of combat and chivalry in WWll. The crews plane, called, " Ye Olde Pub " had to have had the hand of GOD protecting her that day throughout her mission. It is truly a tear jerking sobber of a book, and you won't be able to put it down. You can order it by calling this number (800) 776 - 7897. When you call give them the Code W 7157 The Item # for the book is, M583W. They also have a gorgeous print of the encounter in the sky. Item # P2186W. I promise you, that you will not be able I put this book down !!!!!! It's a winner !!!

@@kubel83 Oh Thank You so much for getting back to me and letting me know! Seriously, I could not year myself away from this book from beginning to the very end! Not only that, but I keep going back to it to re-read certain parts. I promise you, that this is a great book that you will want to read over and over again as I have done. And oh my GOD, did I ever have some serious crying jags that I couldn't stop. I swear that Beautiful B -17 Airplane was so shot up from one end to the other, and with 3 Engines out, while over Germany, it was truly a MIRACLE, that "The Pub," as the crew called her, that she flew at least 300 miles over open ocean back to England safely, without crashing into the sea. Even the guys in the crew felt that something was holding her up in the sky, and they said it wasn't them. It was almost supernatural. I'm really glad to pass this info on to you, and I know you will absolutely love it! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you!

When The Memphis Belle movie first came out in 1990, it quickly became my all time favourite movie & still remains. After getting my hands on any documentary I could find (& buying a Memphis Belle T-shirt), this is the one piece of footage that I always longed to see. The Memphis Belle in her final resting place. What a glorious video. Thanks for posting.

I remember seeing the belle in Memphis in 1972 sitting on a hardstand in front of the national guard armory . She was sun faded covered in birds birdshit with the glass all faded. It was sad. I was 13 but this plane intrigued me. When we got back home to ky I read up on her,and built the Revell model of her.im so glad to see they saved her.

Thank you for preserving this important part of America's history! I noticed toward the end of the video that you hung the Beechcraft D-17S (UC-43) from the rafters of the hangar. A very special part of my life. My father had one for many years. I saw it on the hangar floor on my visit in July of 1992. I look forward to returning there someday to see all the magnificent aircraft that you've preserved in time.

It takes to fly these day light raids . You will bury your friends . If you are strong enough ,from within , to fly the next mission and the one after and so on and witness fellow aircrew being blown out of the sky . Are strong enough to deal with aircombat , 1940 to 1945

Nice ceremony ... A work done with great care and taking care of all the details ..... But ... ?? Where is the landing gear? It is assumed that a complete restoration also includes it ...? I thought that we would see it flying again or at least listening to the sound of its engines, that way the superfortress would have come back to life ... !!!

The aircraft is displayed to represent a mission, with bomb bay doors open and gear up.
Before you wish her restored to flying condition, watch the ground crew preflight and cockpit startup procedures. Once you see the THOUSANDS of system that have to be operational, you can appreciate how much heart and soul was put into restoring this magnificent display piece.
