When I was 15 years old, in the summer of 1997, I heard about a film called Men In Black. Already obsessed with The X-Files and Tommy Lee Jones at the time, I became a fan of the film months before I had even seen it!
I literally bought the T-Shirt, the books, the soundtracks...and when I finally saw it on a première night July 31st 1997, it did not disappoint me and I adored it so much that I walked out of the cinema screen and went to the box office and bought myself a ticket in advance for the next evening.
Subsequently, I saw it a total of 8 times in the cinema that summer. The most I have even seen a film in the cinema.
The best quote from the film, which I still say sometimes to people is: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky animals and you know it!"
In 2002, I spent the spring and summer excited about the 2nd film. Buying the soundtrack again.
I went to see the 2nd movie wearing my original Men In Black T-shirt and laughing my head off at the film. It left me with another favourite quote that meant a lot to me at the time: "We are who we are. Even if we sometimes forget."
Last year I went to see the 3rd film with my two sons. I was so proud to finish the trilogy with my own kids there with me. I left the cinema bawling my eyes out at the ending and it remains one of the saddest endings to any film I have ever seen and a perfect way to complete the relationship of J and K.
Since 1997, MIB has been my favourite film of all time. I now consider all three to be my favourite films of all time.
This is a tribute to my favourite films, to the comedy, the action, the sharp direction and the beautiful heart the films hold.
I hope you enjoy.
Thank you to all that made these films, especially Barry Sonnenfeld, Will Smith and particularly Tommy Lee Jones.
