Just wanted to say really enjoyed this video, would you consider men’s style icons through the decades? James Dean, Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, David Beckham... all have timeless (now classic) looks. (Adjusting the tailoring for a more modern cut) 🙂

There was David Greene in School Ties who is a Scholarship student at an all boys Prep School. Also do a profile on The Men on Soaps especially on The Young & The Restless and Guiding Light, those guys could dress like nobody's business as well as The Bold & The Beautiful.

Number one lesson from this video, a fictional character being a terrible person (I mean, every character in The Gentleman really, and Alex Keaton was described as being "greed with the face of an angel") does not mean we cannot borrow cool fashion ideas from them lol.

Chuck Bass is not the best preppy dude to use as a guide. Even Lisa Birnbach hated on him (the character as a “preppy” guy) in the book True Prep and she explains why. I mean, real preps aren’t always wearing power suits and arriving in a limo to high school every morning.

As someone who spent his school days at prep school, you have missed the mark on this. Most of the guys you show are dressed too flashily and new. You have mixed up preppy with dandy. Chuck Bass is a dandy, but he is not preppy. Preppies were classics that are well worn and keep it pretty simple.
@JT-rx1eo

Yea the examples seemed to stretch the standard, traditional preppy aesthetic. What is it, neo-preppy?
@manoverboard4677

I know you didn't say this exactly. I just want to clarify for everyone that you NEVER match your pocket square and your tie. The pocket square should pick up elements of the tie, but never do they match.
@JT-rx1eo
9 ай бұрын
And I'm here to bust that rule. I say ALWAYS START with a tie/pocket square match at least notionally, then you vary from there. It just makes sense. I've seen way too many tie/pocket square combos that are an absolute mess and way worse aesthetically than the neatness, crispness, and balanced aesthetics of a perfect match. The "never match pocket square to tie" has got to be the stupidest rule ever. Even more stupid than the "never wear white after Labor day" rule.
