I visited this exact same cave in March 2017 during the winter. I hiked across the frozen Mendenhall Lake with dozens of other locals, their kids, and their dogs. It was the most stunning thing I've seen in my 13 years living in Juneau. It's gone now. If you ever have a chance to visit a glacier ice cave, take it. But it's dangerous.

Great video. I understand it's about a 3 hr hike round trip. How did you get to the trail head, rent a car or is there a ride service? Thanks

Thanks. That time sounds about right. Maybe a little longer, especially for more time at the Glacier. I was working in Juneau at the time and we had vehicles. There are a few ways to get to the Glacier. But the trail head I parked at was at the following coordinates. West Glacier Trailhead. (58.4180348, -134.5899094)

How did you actually get there ? By boat ? Drive ? Walk ? Do you know if the tours are the same ? Or do you have to take a certain route to get there ?

The way I took was parking on the north west side trailhead and hiking the 3 miles along the north west trail along the lake side. That’ll get you there. Not sure about tours or boats.

Do you have to pay a tour guide to take you there. Because I don’t quite have 1,000 bucks to do that

No tour guide required for this glacier! Although I think you can get a guide, for hiking or kayaking to this spot. But we just hiked. I think it was about 3 hours round trip. Be sure to park at the north trailhead and hike around the north side of the lake. The south, near Nugget Falls does not take you to this ice cave.

Hi, I'm a journalist, working for a website called Demotivateur (www.demotivateur.fr). I would like to know if I can use some parts of this video to create a short film/video content about the place and post it on our page and social networks. Of course, you will be credited on screen and tag on it. Thanks a lot 🙂 Cheers

What’s all gone? Surely not the ice and the cave? It didn’t collapse or something recently did it?

I googled any news of that. Didn’t see anything. I’m sure it’s still standing. At least for a while longer. My friend went into this area of the caves 25 years ago. It has changed some, but it’s a huge part of a huge glacier. Go find it if you’re there! So worth it.
