So...They actually foreshadowed this on the Episode before, the one where the women trained Abed to insult 'bitches'. When he was analysing the girl with afro and jeans that Britta sent him to insult, In the left corner of the screen it said 'Annie's next Cycle' and gave a November date...I only noticed because I paused and read. And I thought it was weird...but then because I was binging I got to this episode saw this scene and was very impressed by the work and the Easter Egg the writers put in.

Okay but honestly (and I say this as a woman) I understand why Abed did what he did. He was trying to be a better and more socially aware friend. I mean, he was ready with a tissue and chocolate for Annie because he knew she was more likely to need it. And it's important that he ACCIDENTALLY figured out their cycles because unlike, say, the councilmen in Parks and Rec did with Leslie, he didn't assume their menstrual cycles made them cranky from the get go. I totally understand why they feel that he's crossed a line, and he should have stopped after he figured it out. Contrast him with Pierce, who was being a straight up perv and asshole about it. He didn't want to see the notebook so he would help his friends, he wanted to see it because it was personal information about women and he's a sexist pig.

I hate that sitcom thing where a character makes an impassioned speech about something, a detail is pointed out that impacts them and they do a complete reversal (Britta 0:08 - 0:20). I disagree, it could be very well that the two examples given by the others along with Jeff's example were enough to persuade her. I think this is a very funny and cleverly written bit that played through the entire episode from start to finish and was even tied into events in later episodes. Not one bit of this seems to be lazy writing to me. Unless they were lazy about it and just happened to get everything about a bit right.
