Thank you very much for filming this! Your instructions were super clear, even I could follow this for a 25 year old female. I was going to try and film myself doing it because I had to replace the driver's side and the unplug warning power part looked a bit different. My car is a 2000 clk 320 and I used the D2R lamp. I lost a screw along the way but it is working fine. Cheers!

D2R= Discharge 2 generation reflector D2S= Discharge 2 generation shielded The D2R bulbs was made for headlamps without the projector lenses like this mercedes and the patch they had was to cover the hotspots they create and prevent for glaring other drivers. Just for the curious.

I believe the correct way instead of pulling the retainer ring, is just twist it, and pull bulb out. Insert new bulb then tighten the ring. That's how I was shown to do mine.

Great video, I was looking for the same type of video for my W203 C55. I was able to do it based on your instructions. It is much the same only the C55's are much easier to replace. There is no airbox in the way and instead of T20 Torx and the plastic ring there are wire spring clips (2) that hold the bulb in place. I had to hold my iPhone down there and took a video so I could see how the bulbs were held in there. Guess I should post that.
@fupabox

Yeah you should post it... if you know which way the spring needs to be pushed you are fine.. without being able to see it, it becomes a pain in the butt, because you can't really feel which way it should go. :)

Your videos have been a lifesaver for working on my recently acquired W210 4Matic wagon! As a first time Benz owner, I had no idea what it took to work on one; thank you for your tutorials! Have you ever rebuilt a duo valve for the climate control? My heat has been less than stellar, so I plan on tearing into that in the spring when I also change the thermostat and the water pump.

I had changed mine too. But I think the proper bulb is D2R, not D2s. I'm not sure if it makes any difference. The D2S does not have the black patches on the glass.

you removed a D2R bulb and replaced it with a D2S bulb. In other words you replaced the bulb with the wrong bulb type. The D2R is designed for reflective housings while the D2S is for projectors. Putting a D2S bulb in a D2R housing creates a TON more glare due to the lack of the glare shield (the metal thing wrapped around half of the bulb on the D2R that you removed). Just FYI.

***** Yes , I did realize that later on...the bulb the dude at the parts store fit in either.. The d2r is the proper bulb for this car

They are xenon..which means they are gas filled...like a fluorescent bulb they need a ballast to increase the power to ignite the gas and cause it to glow...the fog light is an H1....high beam bulb (next to main headlight) is an H7

Hey Fupa, how are you? I saw all your videos and learned many things. Thank you for taking the time .. I have a clk equal to yours with factory xenon, I have a lamp check problem, could it be xenon? the warning comes on when I put the light in the second position, I see that the bulbs are not the same they have different colors .. I bought the car with those bulbs .. thanks greetings from 🇵🇾 🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻

If the lamps are different intensity (level of whiteness ) it could trick the lamp test into thinking there is a bad bulb

Ok d2r is suppost to have a dark gray patch when it wears it should start turning light blue a small spot in the middle if its really worn it should have a dark blue a d2s should be clear with no spots

Thanks for the video, have you retrofitted to LED headlight? Between low and high beam, there's a motor adjuster connecting to electrical wiring. Is it a concern to get a aftermarket headlight with this motor? If disconnected, would the dashboard show up malfunction?
@fupabox
5 жыл бұрын
The motor is only used to self adjust the headlights so that they won't blind oncoming cars .. It is mandatory to have self adjusting and washing headlights on any car with zenon bulbs . LEDs will not cause any issue with the motor, and shouldn't show a bulb warning. I have used LEDs in my ML320 and they were very bright and good light pattern. AUXBEAM sells some really nice ones at a good price

@@fupabox Many thanks for prompt reply. If you unplug the motor, would it cause any dashboard warning? The reason I asked for expertise: I have a W210 with HID Xenon headlight, exactly same as your mentioned. I figure out the wiring harness has cracking like the underneath ( kzitem.info/news/bejne/rIN7ym2Yi5mTgoY ). I check there's many aftermarket headlamps with led bar, angel eyes etc. But what I find out that most of 'em don't have the motor, would it be problem if I replace new but leave this motor plug idle? Appreciate for your advice. Meanwhile, I have intermittent No(backup light & reverse sensor) problem. This may be caused by tail light connectivity, I change new socket, new osram bulb, directly soldering to circuit plate. Problem unsolved, I read some MB forum mentioned it can be clear by retrofiring to LED tail light. If that is the case, I'm searching for expert advice and after market high quality products.

The d2r bulb is the stock bulb you need...the parts store I got mine from apparently gave me universal d2r/s bulbs which are a bit more unfocused than the d2r bulb I should have gotten...the ones that were in my car when i got it were the universal ones and I wrongly assumed they were correct

You seem very knowledgable. Do you think a halo projector kit would fit in a w208
@fupabox

Kenneth Mathurin they make full replacement projector headlights you can find on ebay....otherwise you would have to custom mount a universal kit in the stock headlights..not extremely easy, and dangerous to oncoming drivers if done wrong

Hey Fupa, I have a 05 CLK 320 Cab - and it has the stock Halogens on them. H7 for Low beam and H7 for high beam. I just ordered a pair of H7 Blue Halogens (8K Xenon look alike - but stock wattage), of both the low and high beams respectively. I just want your take on if its possible to change my halogen bulbs at home, or have to be at a shop?
@fupabox
9 жыл бұрын
charlie c Halogens are really easy to swap...pop off the cover, unplug the connector (just pulls off) then there is a springy wire clip with a protruding loop in it.. push in on the loop then push to the side and the spring clip releases the bulb .. just remembered I have a video on it lol..kzitem.info/news/bejne/k6OKrYiLcId7d2U

How can I remove the xenon ballast and replace it with led headlights?
@fupabox
6 жыл бұрын
You would need to adapt the entire headlight assembly. The zenon bulbs and regular halogens have different size mounting holes. The ballast unscrews from the bottom of the light assembly and then you could just wire in the regular bulb harness from where the ballast plugged in

possible if the zenon bulbs are different colour range from each other , that one may draw more amperage than the other and that tricks the bulb fault system into thinking there is a bad bulb
