I changed mine the other day NOTE: With my vehicle the previous PCV valve had E-Torx bolts 8mm. The two inboard bolts ( the ones on the breather hose side I was able to get a 1/4 inch drive ratchet with 8mm E-Torx socket. The two outboard bolts are a little bit more....not overly complicated but admit that the space is tight and get it over with. I used a 8mm box end wrench but not just any wrench a specific type. Kobalt and I am sure other major tool makers have this type too. It is the type that works on multiple types of fasteners ( 6 point, 12 point, square, and specific for this type...Spline head socket. Yes manual wrench may sound crazy but in this case probably the only one that works. Go in from the inboard (-Throttle body) side and place the box end on the body as close to straight 90 degree as possible. The open end of the wrench should be on the throttle body side and if you have a slight offset angle fine. Rotate bolt as close to a full 90 degree turn counter clockwise as possible. The open end of the wrench should be facing the ground. It might take a couple of tries but once you get the torque broken then you should be able to grab and finish by hand. I was initially skeptical but changed my thinking when I saw how quick the torque broke. If you insist on a ratchet/Socket then use a pass through socket set but for this case the wrench was much quicker and easier. You could have the old valve out and new one in in the time that it talked you to get a ratchet/socket fitted over the head. The added bonus is you have the head of the bolt to grab during removal. The kitnfrom FCP Euro came with new T-30 Torx head bolts but since the E-Torx heads were fine and not stripped they actually worked better. Since this is should be a fairly reasonably high mileage interval replacement the E-Torx head should work. My 2011 E350 had just a tick under 103K during replacement. I am fairly certain that this was OEM and the E-Torx bolts were used from Stuttgart but no big deal. Thanks FCP for providing the Torx bolts and I am sure they can be used for something. Try a set of the E-Torx head bolts and try them for testing and future shipments. Thread pitch is the same as the T-30 bolts you provided but the E-Torx bolts actually worked better despite having the same block-firewall clearance. Also sliding the wrench over the head uses one less tool and keeps lower profile. Note 2: If you can get a piece of butchers twine or sewing thread wrap it around the outside of the open end side and secure tightly. You can anchor the other end of the thread to either your wrist or a opening in the hood. The logic is long enough to get the wrench to work with but anchoring to another area. Drop a wrench, bolt, part, socket etc.....down in the engine bay ONCE and you will see what I mean. Murphy’s law says the item dropped most of the time will not have the courtesy to fall through and straight to the ground. At least twice this week the dropped items embedded themselves on a ledge somewhere in the Abyss of the engine compartment. Most likely fell off that ledge after driving built as they say....learn from my mistakes. Yes I have butterfingers but this can happen to anyone.

You may not be leaking oil on your exhaust from this part being bad. Little do you know there is excessive oil leaking in your throttle body. Due to that rebreather hose being directly connected to your air flow sensor housing. Which connects directly to your throttle body. So .. check your throttle body for oil.

Im seeing an oily mess around my throttle body. I figured it was from this cover, drip pan, and the other side oil seperator and hose going to the throttle body. The parts alone arent that much but they all do add up. Id love to clean the engine but afraid of messing something up.

Good video. On a E-class, there was less space than this video, and I couldn't fit a vise-grip on the socket (which is an E10 by the way) for the lowest bolt. You can fit an open wrench but no one sells Torx open wrenches. Fortunately, a small 5/16 12-point wrench will fit and also grab the bolts. So I used that for the whole job.

I just got an E350 W212 - 2011. Having read up on the problems these intake flaps have on the intake manifold (a service writer at my dealer said he's seen some go at 100,000 miles; some at 200,000) - I get the feeling that if these are changed when needed that problem might go away - as they would let oil in to gunk up that lever. Then you have to replace the intake manifold. I too had a chuckle with Kyle's sweater but hey, if he is clean (cleaner than me) - why not? I didn't see one spec of grease on it. Don't know how he does it.

We have a comprehensive drip pan and drip tray guide for the M272 and M273 coming very soon! These issues are often the cause of the trademark intake runner flap issues commonly seen on these engines, so it was wise of you to get out in front of the problem. Those drip tray cover bolts can certainly be a pain! Rounding up the right tools in advance can directly determine how long this job will take.

Seems Like there's no Video Anywhere showing the Symptoms of Stuck Valve in the Newer Engines 3.5 M276 Engine. I'm Having a Very Rough Idle Like the Engine Visibly Vibrates/Shakes And Feels like its gonna Fall out of the Engine bay when I Gently Give it Gas (No its not the Engine Mounts) I Have done smoke tests and Tested for Vacuum Leaks and Found none. So I took the Breather end of the PCV where it plugs into the Intake Manifold and Blew Air in it and it feels restrictive, air still gets through, however, it's not getting through freely, I Have another engine I did the same thing and it Blows air freely, So I'm suspecting that it could be the Culprit, But I would like to know what the exact symptoms are when there is some restriction in the PCV. I don't see any oil leaks anywhere, Its a 50K Mile 2014 C350 Mercedes.

I have a 2010 E550. I noticed there is some kind of flexible grey hose that starts around the MAF and is directly behind touching the PCV cap (the grey hose is actually zip tied to the tube on the PCV cap on mine). The grey hose then runs parallel to the passenger side valve cover between the fender on the engine. It seems to be some kind of wiring that is protected by grey hose. What is it ??? I don't see anything like this on your video. I can't remove the cap because the grey hose is in the way.
@fcpeuro
4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like that is a protective loom covering the wires. Perhaps you can try temporarily removing the zip tires and pulling the harness out of the way to remove the cap, and then zip tie it back in place when you are done.

If this helps anyone with that dreaded last bolt, bottom left (bottom left from engine view), I just replaced my pcv valve (crankcase breather element) on my 2010 C300, M272 engine. My car has the E8 or E10 inverted torx (I can't remember at the moment, but 8mm socket also works) instead of a T30. Anyway, the other 3 bolts weren't too bad but I was really struggling with that last bolt so I gave up after 45 minutes. I took a pry bar and gently kept prying since the other 3 bolts were removed, and since this is just a plastic housing with metal reinforced rings at the bolt holes, I broke the pcv valve completely off, and then I was able to remove that last bolt and get that small piece of broken plastic off, since I then had room. I know, not the most sophisticated way but I think most of us who are here are DIY people not mechanics or even shade tree mechanics. So if this helps you, give it a try. And no, I didn't allow the rubberized pry bar end to damage the end of the camshaft, the mating surface, or any of that sort of thing. I did it carefully.

I recalled giving my mechanic 2 x 5 qt. cans of Mobil1 0W-40 and he telling me that he put all of it in. I did some research on the net and found out that the engine only takes about 9 qts. Regardless, I changed the 3 x plugs but the oil still leaks. I will now be replacing the vent valve but am afraid that it won't fix the problem either.
