Obviously, the type approval and the law has to be change for E-trucks. Otherwise they can only carry a single pallet. 21:50 So if you can roughly say 100 kWh per 100 km with cargo, that is about 0,07 kWh per ton of cargo (I took 16 tons since that is pretty standard) and kilometer. A Diesel truck of the same class needs 25 liters/100 km and one liter of diesel contains 9,8 kWh of energy - that makes 0,15 kWh per ton and Kilometer - a little more than double the energy consumption, which shows, just how efficient electric motors are. Also, if you apply the current price for diesel in germany with about 1,45 €/l you get a cost of 36,25 €/100 km - the electric truck costs about 20 € per 100 km (based on 20 ct/kWh, if the company has an own charging station for all the trucks and uses a lot of electricity plus charges them at night, that is more than realistic - I myself pay 19 ct/kWh at night)
@moestrei

11:40 is not an engine brake on Diesel but a retarder which works mostly hydraulically (sometimes electrically) and is a unit fitted to the gearbox. Converts kinetic energy into heat. Well, don't know if its very "advanced" to need cooling for the cable. Means the cable is just too small and causes a lot of losses when it heats up. Well, it's probably cheaper that way than to make the cable beefier. Cooling is extra complexity that ideally should not be needed.

In German and UK, old driving licenses came with all sorts of permissions for different things, non articulated trucks, tracked machinery, tractors of any size, buses up to 16 people, trailers - it is ridiculous what I am allowed to drive. Interestingly, most people in the UK don't realize their recent driving license does not permit them to use a trailer, but the old ones did. So.. 2,5 hours to charge to 400 km. Swedish law allows 9 hour days with a 45 minute break in the middle. 8,25 hours of driving in a regular truck and 6,5 hours in an electric one. They will need some sort of automated battery switching stations if they want to keep up with the diesel efficiency. Plus less cargo since the battery and electronics weighs a bit more than the fuel tank and engine. The major freighters will need crazy amounts of power to keep all those trucks running. It won’t be an easy feat to switch from diesel to electricity. Math stuffs (courtesy of the Swedish statistics bureau): Swedens lorrys drove 4 210 936 900 km in 2018. That is also the amount of kWh needed (if all the trucks has eActros efficiency). Dats a lot of power to dole out from charging locations

Driving 12 hours a day is illegal in the EU+UK and for good reason it's unsafe. You are limited to 9 hours a day with a possible extension to 10 hours but no more than twice a week. (Drivers’ hours rules Regulation (EC)561/2006). Further it is no more than 56 hours a week or 90 hours over two weeks. On top of that you can't actually drive 9 hours straight there is requirements for breaks which limit the amount of time driving to 8 hours in a day. If electric trucks "enforce" these limits due to requirements to charge then that's a good thing IMHO.

5:46 A little concerned, though, about that wiring from the battery being exposed like that. I mean, if you hit some gravel or stones and those fragments hit the wires, it might cause a problem. There should be an extra case, maybe even a plastic one... that encases the battery and wires in a single unit.

yeah, very scary it is. hope, that they test that very good out, so nothing can happen. Like they did with these diesel boxes. So we all hope, that uhm batteries are not so dangerous. Let‘s see

They've probably gone full electric on the refrigerator unit for the cargo compartment. It would be interesting to know how much energy does it use, and how does it impact the range having it running. Those units are normally dual power source on diesel trucks, having a dedicated diesel engines and an electric one for plugging in when the truck is parked.

what is interesting that the constant charging power is 160kw but the constant regen power is 350kw. In the Alps you have a few passes that go downhill for a very long time and I'd be curious what happens then. Also sad that there's no on board charger so you're dependant on public charging infrastructure. An 11kw or better 22kw on board charger would make life so much easier for many companies to simply charge the trucks overnight or over sunday (truck ban on sunday in Germany) with existing iinfrastructure or via CEE even. DC charging can be very expensive and that might help to keep the cost down.

They should build a charger with two big rolls under the rear wheels, and rotate those to charge the truck on regen. 😂😂
