I'm actually a bit confused. Why do you need 200A? That sounds huge. How many amps does the charger draw? Isn't general guidance to install a fuse that's about 20-30% larger than the max amp draw? Secondly, why are you adding two fuses? I guess it would help if there was a wiring diagram.

If you’re using a 30A DC/DC charger, then you would use s 40A fuse/breaker. But, if you’re using a Victron Cyrix battery combiner, and you have a 220A alternator, then 200A is appropriate. Here’s a diagram: amsolar.com/rv-battery-accessories/98-altcli230

The video is clear & easy to follow, but you didn't say what these Midi fuses were about. What was the purpose of the first one? What does "Midi" mean?
@GarretTowneAMS

This application called for 2x 200A MIDI fuses. A Midi fuse is basically a small space-saving fuse (usually ranging from 30A to 200A) that is popular in automotive applications. The largest input protection on this fuse block was a 150A MIDI fuse from Mercedes. Since we were putting in a 200A Cyrix relay, we upgraded this to a 200A MIDI fuse. Additionally, we put a 2nd 200A MIDI fuse to protect the line feeding alternator current to the lithium house bank. Does this help?

@@GarretTowneAMS Thanks for the explanation. I'd never heard of MIDI fuses before, but I can see how they'd be useful.

Positive cable is connected to the power distribution block, where do you connect the negative cable? Thanks!!

The negative cable is the chassis. Connect the load side of your battery monitor shunt to the chassis.

Great video. Would it be possible to hook up a dc dc charger to one of those open spots to charge a house battery that is separate from an already existing factory installed auxiliary battery?

Yes, we use a Victron Orion 12|12 30 that way all the time.

Great! Thank you for the quick response! Are there any other ways that are preferred to add a house battery to a vehicle that is separate from the already existing aux?’or is this the best way? Once again thank you for the response!

Great video and information. Is there any connection needed to an ignition wire? or is it as simple as connecting to your battery and to your charge controller?

With a Cyrix or an Orion, there is no ignition wire connection needed. These devices act on the increased voltage that they see from the starter battery.

@@GarretTowneAMS Quick question for you, I have a 40a dc/dc charger I will be running to this spot. Would I use a 40a Midi fuse in this location or are there additional things to take into consideration with the fuse sizing? What would you recommend?
@GarretTowneAMS

@@jasonlarev1 If your charger puts out 40A, it will have to draw more than 40A, so you will likely need something rated for 50A or 60A on input.
