I have a turbo om603 and automatic transmission from my w124 300D so now I'm thinking of swapping it into my 116 after seeing how little custom work has to be done to make it fit. Hi There, I see in later Vids you do a Turbo Upgrade on this Engine, thumbs up for that:-) I run a merc 309 T1 Bus and have recently swapped the Engine out for a 602, (the 603-6 Cylinder doesnt fit in the engine Bay) and have put a Turbo on it. I used a Unimog Manifold and a Sprinter Turbo, seems to work well as I dont need the big Numbers people go for. One thin I found out is that you have to modify the Crank Case Vent extensivly otherwise the engine spurts Oil on Boost. Greets from D (also snowed in at the moment)

Hey , ive seen some manifold for some kind of van that fits a OM602 , it built hightwise and runs over the valve-cover and the intake is on the exhaust side of the engine. Just seen it on engines that are allready dismanteld from cars so i havent figured out what car they came out of (would guess some mercedes van like a sprinter) I still have a original crank case breahter, and its a good point that i should do something about it. Its a project for the summer of 2021.

@@Foffe2000 Thats the OM 602 DeLa 2.9 Engine W901-5 The Pump is different and needs electronics. Dieselmekken makes a conversion but its very expensive.

Did you do a breakin on the engine after the rebuild? I just thought that was recommended. I'm a dilettante as well and though I've been working on cars my whole life I've just seriously got in to learning about rebuilds/refresh. Trying to soak in as much as possible until I try my hand. Looks like you did a pretty good job.

As far as i know there arent any common problems with the break-in of these engines. I did use assembly-lube on all the parts thats in metal-to-metal contakt. And spinning the oil-pump before startup is not an easy thing to get access to either.

Did you do a compression test to see how well the dingleball did? I am rebuilding a om602 and i was told there is to much compression and tight tolerances for a dingleball to work like on a gas engine.

Hello, no i havent. And im an greenhorn at this so see it as guesswork. But i think the same heatcoffecient, on a hot or cold engine are the same on theese diesel engines and gasoline ones. The main difference is the compression-rate. You can see that the piston is almost flat with the engine block deck when i turn the engine around. The few diesel-engines i have taken apart do seem to have the scuffing marks as on the gasoline ones. As i said, i am guessing here but i think the same tolerances on the cylinderwalls apply here.

Nej jag har inte koll på samtliga sex kontaktorer in i glödreläet. Men vill du bara ha glödning på nån bil utan automatik så tror jag det kommer räcka med ständig batterimatning till kontakt 30, och sedan sätter du +12V på en återfjädrande knapp mot kontakt 15 för att glödga. Samma procedur som att koppla in vilket relä som helst i bilen. Men din frågeställning var intressant. Må kanske göra nån youtube-video om dessa glödrelän också. Ha en bra dag Marcus

På rak arm kände jag bara till vertikal-läge på W124 å frammåt, men aldrig tänkt på det på de äldre. Står man utomhus där det riskera att komma en vindpust bör man nog inte ha det oavsett.

The pump is a Dieselmeken 7,5mm . They do smoke alot since they aim for performance rather than fuel economy. This one is fitted with the outside ALDA where the fuel amount is adjusted according to the amount of boost there is in the intake manifold. And in that video i didnt run it with a turbo at all , therefore it smokes alot.

@@arne-egilhermansen6434 Why do you want your car to smoke more? The black smoke is just a sign that youre engine is starwing oxygen due to that you mix in to much fuel compared to oxygen. And compared to a gasoline engine wich benifits from being a little bit rich theres no upside whats so ever for runing the diesel rich, the leaner you can get it to run the cooler the engine will be and you dont put as much stress on the engine parts. The turbo on a diesel is actually right adjusted a money and enviromental good thing on a diesel. Thats why alot of American states even demanded that all light weight diesel cars in America had to be fited with a turbo i think it was 1987 for enviromental purposes.
