These old movies and commercials really give me the motivation or revive these beauties. I was on the fence about going to purchase a 1963 35hp for $100, it is a “barn find” to put it kindly, but I think it will be worth picking up

Love these “videos”. I worked for a Mercury dealer in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90,s that opened in 1947. We had many of these “movies” playing in the showroom from time to time.

We’ve been putting our boat in the water at turtle Beach Sarasota for almost 50 years and the old mercury tanks still exist at stump Pass. It was great seeing This film clip on the active test center at Sarasota💪🇺🇸🇺🇸

Can u imagine being in the back of that boat when a semi-running 35 horse outboard lands next to u? These videos are great! No snowflakes back then. What a great time.

I haven't come across this one before, thanks for posting! I wonder if they still do durability testing like this on newer outboards made today - I'm skeptical😏

This is a great video, entertaining. One thing I’m noticing though is mercury is trying to say how much better they were.. but the motor they were using was twice the power. Of course it did better. Entertaining none the less though

Salt water ruined them ..Steel drive shafts and shift shafts corrode. Bad motors in salt water.

Regardless. I will take OMC any day over a Mercury! Purposely ruining 2 perfectly good Johnson and Evinrude! Your point made at anothers expense!!!

Omc Outdated Motorized Contraption. Omc never updated anything or even changed anything for years. Parts interchange for 10yr runs. So here is something for ya. In 1965 mercury made a true trim and tilt system. It wasn't till 1975 that omc did. But they did have a defunct tilt system. That would not even hold the motor up under idle. Ya it tilted it but I guess it's better than nothing. I have a huge collection of boats myself and been a marine mechanic for 48yrs. I have worked on them all. If ya want a pooch fishing motor buy a omc. If you want to fly buy a mercury. Mercury was the God of speed thus why they are named that way. As for the direct drive motors I often wonder why make a motor with all that power and no gear shift. That is a flaw for sure. Dock busters lol so true.

@@Roosters_Restosthere are more vintage OMC motors running power boats on the water where I am from then any other company. Mercury is probably the least common. Mercury is known to be hard to work on, and easy to blow up. This video is very entertaining but mercury motors are just crap in comparison to OMC. I’ll take my 1977 Johnson over any merc any day.

We’ve always had Mercs starting with my Dad’s 1958 Mark 78. Always reliable. My Stepdad bought a new boat in 1979 with a Johnson 115. Power trim pump failed within 3 seasons and in season 4 it had a meltdown. The failure was shocking as our summer seasons in Wisconsin are not long. To each is own but it’s Merc for me.
