Turner Construction Company has been involved in the construction of 14 of the world’s tallest buildings. The latest is Merdeka 118, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With a height of 678.9 meters, Merdeka 118 is a symbol of Malaysia’s diversity and independence. "Merdeka" means "independence" in Malay, and the shape of the skyscraper is based on a photograph of the first Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, at the moment he declared the country’s independence. The building’s 169-meter-high spire symbolizes his outstretched arm in the picture.
Chien-Jou (CJ) Chen, Turner’s Project Manager on the Merdeka 118 also worked on Taipei 101 (508 meters) and the world record-breaking Burj Khalifa (828 meters).
