Merida had so much potential in the first act, but by the second and third acts they regressed her arc into yet another one where a Disney princess has to rectify all her problems and not once do they acknowledge the stuff her mother did.

I mostly agree. I think the movie has a strong setup, right until her mother is turned into a bear, and I also think it has a very satisfying ending, but everything in between feels mostly lacking. Some strong scenes here and there of Merida and her mother bonding, but where it really misses the mark is not having a heart to heart between the two. I'd have loved even a short 2 minute scene of Merida expressing her frustrations, and maybe once her mother returns to human form, I dunno, some kind of apology or explanation beyond "because I want you to do what's best for you"? It's not like Pixar can't do the trope of "characters clash and eventually make amends." Buzz and Woody are the easy go-to example, but Onward is a great brother/brother example in which most of the movie is a heart to heart disguised as an adventure. Turning Red is masterful in developing the strained mother/daughter relationship trope and giving it a thorough and satisfying setup, explanation, and resolution Still really like Brave, but it feels like a lot of unmet potential

What do you mean you don’t agree with the statement that brave is Pixar’s version of a classic Disney film? That’s an objective fact, and they do it miserably too! Good ridens to her she isn’t a true Pixar character, and she is the worst Pixar protagonist! Pixar is such an amazing studio they don’t deserve to have her stupid face on their merchandise. At the same time seeing a Pixar character in Disney promotion and stuff sickens me, I demand Disney take her off the princess line and give this horrible movie the same treatment as the wild or Mars needs moms.

The film has the conventions of a Pixar film, and is a fairy tale. Disney didn’t invent fairy tales, this is just Pixar first foray into the space.
